We are pleased to introduce the jury of the MozArte International Piano Competition.

Pavel Gililov‘s exceptional musical talent was recognized and nurtured at an early age, and he received his first piano lessons from his father.

In 1961, he made his first public appearance performing Dmitri B. Kabalevsky’s Third Piano Concerto. The composer himself was so impressed by the young pianist that he helped secure Gililov’s admission to a special school for highly gifted children in St. Petersburg.

In 1972, while still a student, Gililov won the National Piano Competition of the USSR in Moscow. Three years later, he received a prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, which led to numerous concert invitations across the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries.

After completing his studies in 1976, he was appointed as a lecturer at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1978, he emigrated from the Soviet Union, first to Austria and later to Cologne, where he continued his work as a piano professor and performer. In the same year, he also won the International Viotti Piano Competition in Vercelli, Italy.

From 1979 to 2013, Gililov served as professor of piano at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne, while maintaining an active international career as a soloist and chamber musician.

In 2005, he founded the International Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn, where he serves as jury chairman. Since 2007, he has also been a professor at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, continuing to perform worldwide both as a soloist and chamber musician, including with the Berlin Piano Quartet and the Gililov Quartet.
