In an age where conspiracy theories and technological paranoia permeate discourse, the boundary between justified concern and irrational fear grows increasingly blurred.

Subterfuge brings together three artists who probe this uncertain territory by presenting works that embody mechanisms of deception and surveillance. Together, these works create a hall of mirrors where paranoia meets confirmation, where the tools of deception become the means of survival. The exhibition asks: in a world where everything can be fabricated, how do we distinguish between legitimate concern and manufactured fear?

The Secret Lives of Birds” by Julie Hrčířová @‌julie_hrncirova, is on view at / until May 25 2025.

The exhibition title borrows its name from the 2024 ambient album by Patricia Wolf, which explores invisible layers of presence and perception through soundscapes and bird recordings. Just as the composer listens to the sounds of the city from the perspective of its animal inhabitants, this exhibition invites us to slow down — to perceive what usually escapes ordinary attention.

The photographs of Julie Hrnčířová deliberately avoid any narrative reference points and focus on the relationship between object, space, and viewer. They do not guide us through a story or interpretation. Instead, they throw us into situations where the gaze is unstable, slowed, blurred. What remains is shadow, fold, surface.

The city is not just an environment. It is a body that breathes, gets wounded, and regenerates.

💥We are now accepting applications for our
residency in Prague with public presentation for international, Czech and local Prague artists and collectives. The Petrohradská kolektiv residency brings together creators from different fields whose practices are based on experimentation and the development of unexpected formats from 2016.

The residency with the public outcome will host max twelve residents per year for a period of two months in 5 cycles starting in May 2024.

Potential participants present their specific projects to be realised during their stay.

During the residency, participants are invited to present their work in the form of a group exhibition, which will take place in the Jedna Dva Tři Gallery, or as part of another public programme of the Petrohradská Kolektiv on the theme of the open call. The form of the output will be adapted to the nature of each project. Artists will share common spaces, shared flat and studios and workshops, creating a dynamic interaction between their experiences, ideas and contacts.
