rr club – reading rebellion – je kolektivní a nehierarchický čtenářský klub, kde otevřeně diskutujeme nad nadčasovými, kritickými texty a dalšími mediálními formáty o architektuře a souvisejících tématech. Na čtvrtém, posledním setkání nad knihou řeckého architekta a profesora Stavrose Stavrida „Common Space. The City as Commons“ – v úterý 26. 5. 2026 v 18:00 v kavárně Klub Betlémská budeme diskutovat třetí část knihy: Envisaged common spaces i závěr knihy (strany 183–273).
Kniha se věnuje městu jako prostoru sdílených statků (commons) a kolektivního vyjednávání. Ve třetí části se autor zaměřuje na otázku, jak si představujeme emancipaci, svobodu a společný prostor – a jak tyto představy formují samotné možnosti politické a prostorové transformace. Kriticky analyzuje modernistické i utopické obrazy ideální společnosti založené na řádu, harmonii či neomezené mobilitě a upozorňuje, že emancipace nemusí vznikat skrze uzavřené „ostrovy svobody“, ale prostřednictvím otevřených a proměnlivých procesů commoningu. Na příkladech zapatistických komunit, Rojavy nebo městských hnutí v Latinské Americe ukazuje, že společné nemusí být chápáno jako stabilní model nebo instituce, ale jako neustále vyjednávaná praxe sdílení prostoru, zdrojů i moci. Klíčovou otázkou závěru knihy je, za jakých podmínek mohou commons zůstat otevřené nově příchozím, odolávat uzavírání a zároveň vytvářet emancipatorní formy kolektivního života mimo logiku kapitálu a státní dominance.

rr club – reading rebellion is a collective and non-hierarchical reading group where we openly discuss critical, timeless texts and other media related to architecture and its broader social, political, and cultural contexts. At the fourth and final meeting, we will finish reading the book by Greek architect and professor Stavros Stavrides “Common Space. The City as Commons” – on Tuesday 26. 5. 2026 at 18:00 at café Klub Betlémská, we will discuss the third part of the book: Envisaged Common Spaces and the conclusion (p. 183–273).
The book explores the city as a space of shared resources (commons) and collective negotiation. In the third part the author turns to the question of how emancipation, freedom, and common space are imagined — and how these imaginaries shape the possibilities of political and spatial transformation. He critically examines modernist and utopian visions of ideal societies based on order, harmony, or unrestricted mobility, arguing that emancipation does not emerge through enclosed “islands of freedom,” but through open and constantly shifting processes of commoning. Drawing on examples such as the Zapatista communities, Rojava, and urban movements in Latin America, Stavrides suggests that the common should not be understood as a fixed model or institution, but as an ongoing practice of negotiating the sharing of space, resources, and power. The concluding chapters ultimately ask under what conditions commons can remain open to newcomers, resist enclosure, and sustain emancipatory forms of collective life beyond the logics of capital and state domination.
