In 1998, the Modern Library ranked the novel "A Town Like Alice" seventeenth on The Reader's List of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. When, in 1981, it was adapted as a mini-series and broadcast internationally through the BBC, the novel and its author Nevil Schute practically became household names. But isn't the book always better than the film? We'll be in The Globe on Tuesday, 12 June, to discuss the book, author, and meandering ideas. We've moved the time from 6 PM to 7 PM. Please "like" this page to receive notices of "Wide World Reading Group" titles and meeting dates. And let me know if you've a special book you want included on our list.
Remember, reading group books are available at The Globe at a 10% discount to members.

Got any plans for the 1st of May?

As our WW Reading Group embraced the theme of travelers' life in contemporary India, we are happy to announce our next title up for discussion: E. M. Forster's 'A Passage to India'.
This great classic allows you an insight to the long gone face of turn-of-the-century India along with all its controversies.

A short review here from amazon.com:
Among the greatest novels of the twentieth century and the basis for director David Lean’s Academy Award-winning film, A Passage to India tells of the clash of cultures in British India after the turn of the century. In exquisite prose, Forster reveals the menace that lurks just beneath the surface of ordinary life, as a common misunderstanding erupts into a devastating affair.

Those who would like to attend our next meeting enjoy a 10 percent discount of the price of the book at The Globe Bookstore and Café!
