🤍 Gladly sharing images from today's presentation of K. (Greece, Czech Republic, Netherlands), a co-production documentary project directed by Panagiotis Papatragkos and co-produced by Ondřej Zima od Evolution Films for the Czech Republic, which took place at doclisboa's 2026 industry platform Nebulae as part of the Greek country in Focus program.

🤍 The Hollywood Reporter offers an exclusive trailer for 🎬 Up Again, Eliška Andršová Cílková's feature debut and portrait of three-time Czech figure skating champion Barbora Vránková.

The film is set to premiere at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and will come to HBO Max across Europe.

This almost slipped our attention... 🤭 🎬 Panna Sofia (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Türkiye, Netherlands), the upcoming hictorical feature by Václav Kadrnka, produced by Václav Kadrnka and Simona Kadrnková under the banner of production outfit Sirius Films, won the 🏆 Gruvi Award at European Work in Progress Hamburg 2026. 🤍

Kadrnka's project was also presented at the recently held Warsaw Co-production Market during the Warsaw Industry Days.

🤍 Great news from the Warsaw International Film Festival!

🎬 Lover, Not a Fighter (Slovakia, Czech Republic) directed by Martina Buchelová and produced by Julie Marková Žáčková of NOCHI FILM for the Czech side, was decorated with 🏆The Young FIPRESCI Award.

The jury stated:

“For bravely encapsulating generational angst and the feeling of being young and lost, playfully poking fun at the absurd modernity we live in with innovative and experimental filmmaking, and empathetic performances.”

The main 🏆 award from the Polish Producers Alliance (KIPA), carrying a cash prize of PLN 50,000, went to Dagmara Piasecka for producing 🎬 Pixie. The New Beginning” (Poland, Czech Republic) directed by Krzysztof Komander and co-produced by Michal Sikora of Czech company Lonely Production.

Furthermore, 🎬 Letters to the Future, a film project in development, directed by Myro Klochko and produced by Karolína Dvorská Fránková and Marek Čermák of Films & Chips (Czech Republic), and Veronika Stepanchuk of Balcony 48 (Ukraine), received 🏆 ORKA Award for the best project in development at the Warsaw Co-production Forum during the Warsaw Industry Days.

The jury explained its decision:

“The project stood out for its sensitive and original vision, showing how love, memory and the wounds of war shape our lives and relationships across generations. For its beautiful combination of magical realism, intimate storytelling, artistic vision and emotional depth, the award goes to ‘Letters to the Future’.”

The award comprises digital picture post-production services worth €10,000 and is presented to the project’s lead producers.

🤍 IDFA finally revealed all the films in the 2026 program and we are more than happy to report that four Czech films made it to the selection: 🎬 Up in the Air (Czech Republic, Lithuania, Ukraine) by Oksana Koklonska is part of the Luminous program (presented here in the world premiere), while 🎬 Bára - Diary of a Rockstar landed in the Signed program. Furthermore, Best of Fests program hosts widely celebrated documentaries 🎬 If Pigeons Turned to Gold (Czech Republic, Slovakia) by Pepa Lubojacki and 🎬 Rehearsals for a Revolution (Czech Republic, Spain) by Pegah Ahangarani. 👏

The festival starts on November 12, 2026.

🤍🔥 Three Czech films shortlisted for the European Film Awards 2027

The Czech Republic enters the nomination race at the 🏆 39th European Film Awards with three films shortlisted in two categories, as announced today by the European Film Academy. 👏

Feature drama 🎬 Only Beautiful Things to Look At (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary) directed by Ivan Ostrochovský and produced by Punkchart Films (SK) and Pavel Strnad and Petr Oukropec of the Czech company Negativ Film Productions, is shortlisted in the Fiction category alongside Sundance-premiered co-production drama 🎬 How to Divorce During the War (Lithuania, Luxembourg, Ireland, Czech Republic) by Andrius Blaževičius, co-produced by Bionaut for the Czech side.

Sought-after Cannes-awarded documentary 🎬 Rehearsals for a Revolution (Czech Republic, Spain) by Pegah Ahangarani, produced by Kaveh Farnam of Prague-based Media Nest and Adrià Monés of Fasten Films (Spain), made it to the Documentary shortlist.

In the coming weeks, the 5,700 members of the European Film Academy will watch the shortlisted films and vote on the nominations. The 39th European Film Awards will be celebrated on Saturday 16 January 2027. The ceremony will take place in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens, Greece.

🤍 Friends of Czech documentary film, take note! Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival just revealed the greater part of the program of it's upcoming 30th edition, including several world premieres of Czech documentary films, such as 🎬 Love Exposed by Filip Remunda in Opus Bonus competition, or 🎬 Up Again by Eliška Cílková Andršová and 🎬 Water Wears Away by Kateryna Ruzhyna in the First Lights competition. Great number of promising Czech documentaries also occupies the Czech Joy program.
