Our next show is the STAND-IN on April 24th; however, as of today, [11/4] there are only 16 tickets left, so if you want to see this hilarious show, you need to get a move on.

We at Cimrman English Theatre would like to wish Mr. Svěrák many happy returns and many congratulations on his 90th birthday.

We hope he has a wonderful day spending time with family and friends; and, of course, much of the nation as the special anniversary performance from the Žižkovské divadlo Járy Cimrmana will be streamed to cinemas throughout the Czech Republic.

We were delighted and privileged to be invited by Ian Willoughby, to give a talk about CET at the Vaclav Havel Library. We had an an opportunity to tell the audience not only about our origins, our way of working, the process of translations, but also to reaffirm our love of the Cimrman texts, Czech culture and our love of this country; it was a lovely experience and evening.

In Conversation With… Cimrman English Theatre
Prague’s Cimrman English Theatre has been performing English-language versions of plays from the much-loved Divadlo Járy Cimrmana for over a decade. But does the idiosyncratic, and very Czech, humour really translate into English? And how accurate are comparisons with the UK’s Monty Python comic troupe, which also dates back to the late 1960s? These questions and more will be answered by three core members of the Cimrman English Theatre: Brian Stewart, Adam Stewart and Peter Hosking.

In Conversation With… is an occasional series of discussions in English hosted by Ian Willoughby of Radio Prague International.

The Václav Havel Library functions as a centre for the documentation and research of modern Czech history, with an emphasis on promoting the ideas of VH.

So, dear supporters, we have GOOD NEWS and BAD NEWS. The GOOD NEWS for us is that the last two shows of the season - The Stand-In and The Conquest of the North Pole are SOLD OUT. The BAD NEWS is for those who missed out on tickets - but Nil Desperandum. Our new season starts on January 30th, 2026 with another performance of The Stand-In.
