⛓️💥Boredom and frustration gave rise to a strong and distinctive alternative music scene in a forgotten corner of northern Slovakia. One of the first notable bands in Čadca was 0tras, formed in the early 1990s. The members — Peter “Varso” Varsavík (guitar, vocals), Julo Fujak (drums), Jožo Hruška, and Martin Baculák (bass) — released the album Kysucký Postindustriál in 1998, a record that made history and influenced an entire generation of young people from the region.
⛓️The documentary Varso, directed by Kristián Grupač, captures the life of an unconventional musician whose lifestyle and creative approach defy both musical and social norms. The story carries a message about creativity as a possible lifeline for someone struggling with long-term mental health issues. At the same time, it invites reflection on the relationship between art, mental health, and the environment in which an artist’s legacy is born — and slowly fades away.
