The choreography evokes the energy of New York, the city that became Balanchine’s home, as well as a symbol of the modern world itself. Virtuosity, musicality and joy of movement give rise to a unique picture of American cultural identity, translated into the classical ballet idiom. In Balanchine’s piece, Gershwin’s melodies, which now form part of the 20th-century cultural legacy, are accorded a new form, one characterised by precision, elegance and spontaneity.

These days, the dancers are working on the two George Balanchine choreographies that form the evening’s programme — the symphonic Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet and the title work Who Cares?, inspired by the spirit of jazz.

Umělecký ředitel Filip Barankiewicz povýšil Marca Piraina na demisólistu. Marco je výjimečný tanečník, který na sebe v poslední době strhává pozornost obrovským uměleckým růstem, a to zejména v oblasti současného tance, kde naplno vyniká jeho technická preciznost a osobitý výraz. Už dříve zazářil například v roli Parise v baletu Romeo a Julie nebo jako Kocour v botách v inscenaci Spící krasavice. V posledních týdnech zaujal především v triptychu Avant-Garde, a to v choreografiích 4 Seasons a Lovebirds.

Artistic Director Filip Barankiewicz has promoted Marco Piraino to demisoloist. Marco is an exceptional dancer who has recently been drawing attention for his tremendous artistic growth, particularly in the field of contemporary dance, where his technical precision and distinctive expressiveness truly shine. He has previously excelled, for example, in the role of Paris in Romeo and Juliet or as Puss in Boots in Sleeping Beauty. In recent weeks, he has made a profound impression in the Avant-Garde triple bill, specifically in the choreographies 4 Seasons and Lovebirds.

4 Seasons
Dílo 4 Seasons Roberta Bondary je vyjádřením věčného koloběhu, v němž se lidský život od prvního nadechnutí až po svůj závěr zrcadlí v proměnách ročních období. Doprovázeno Richterovou reinterpretací Vivaldiho Čtvera ročních dob, vrací do koloběhu života téma smrti jako přirozenou a neoddělitelnou součást naší existence. Křehkost lidského bytí v inscenaci zhmotňují papírové kostýmy symbolizující člověka jako čistý list papíru, který se postupem let plní zkušenostmi i vráskami. Právě v tomto „pomačkání“ se však odhaluje skutečná krása – oslava života, který je ve své zranitelnosti a konečnosti naprosto jedinečný.

4 Seasons
Robert Bondara’s 4 Seasons is an expression of the eternal cycle, where human life, from the first breath to its end, is reflected in the changing seasons. Set to Richter’s reinterpretation of Vivaldi’s Le quattro stagioni, the choreography brings death back into the cycle of life as a natural and inseparable part of our existence. The fragility of being is captured by paper costumes symbolizing a person as a blank sheet of paper, filling with experiences and wrinkles over the years. It is in this 'crumpling' that true beauty is revealed—a celebration of life that is completely unique in its vulnerability and its finite nature.

Dílo 27'52'' Jiřího Kyliána je hlubokou úvahou o čase a neodvratné změně, které jsme v každé vteřině vystaveni. Choreografie nám připomíná, že nestárneme jen v den svých narozenin, ale v každém okamžiku, který s sebou nese nový stav a zkušenost. Tato proměnlivost však není zdrojem úzkosti, ale osvobozujícím vědomím, že se jako lidé můžeme neustále vyvíjet. V nestabilním světě, kde se i země pod nohama zdá nespolehlivá, zůstává jedinou jistotou právě nejistota. Je to existenciální studie o hledání smyslu lidského bytí a o odvaze přijmout fakt, že vše v nás i kolem nás je v neustálém pohybu.

Jiří Kylián’s 27’52’’ is a profound reflection on time and the inevitable change to which we are subjected every second. The choreography reminds us that we do not age only on our birthdays, but in every moment that brings with it a new state and experience. This changeability, however, is not a source of anxiety, but a liberating awareness that, as human beings, we can constantly evolve. In an unstable world where even the ground beneath our feet seems unreliable, uncertainty remains the only certainty. It is an existential exploration of the search for the meaning of human existence and the courage to accept the fact that everything within us and around us is in constant motion.
