Take a look at how contemporary art can connect and communicate with the art and ideas of the 20th century.

Timeline is inspired by František Kupka’s illustrations for L’Homme et la Terre (Man and Earth) by Élisée Reclus (1905), which traced the history of humanity through its interactions with nature.

Today, as climate change makes us more aware of the Anthropocene, Reclus’s ideas and Kupka’s illustrations feel more relevant than ever. Timeline brings together 14 international artists alongside Kupka’s drawings and explores four main themes: the idea of a connected world, deep time and natural cycles, the desire to understand complex systems and data, and a renewed interest in animism inspired by 19th-century symbolism.

If you would like to learn more about Kupka’s work and his collaboration with Reclus, you can also watch a video by art historian Markéta Theinhardt, who specializes in Kupka’s art.

The video is available on the website KodlContemporary

Außerkörperliche Erfahrung: Wandering Spirit

Jura Shust is a Belarusian artist based in Berlin. In his work, he combines installation, video, sound, and performance to create immersive environments that viewers can physically enter and experience. He explores rituals and symbols, from religious traditions to contemporary digital structures, merging ancient mythologies with technology and internet aesthetics. In his recent projects, he works with the motif of a “wandering entity” moving between nature and technology, perceiving trees as living archives and cemeteries as databases of memory.

Timeline on view until 7.6.

Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil - Timeline

The Day Before_Star System is a series of photographs reconstructing the night sky on the eve of historical tragedies. Using astronomical software, Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil captures the final ordinary moment before catastrophe, creating quiet yet unsettling images that reflect on memory, violence, and the fragility of history.

Marguerite Humeau in the Timeline exhibition

At the current exhibition Timeline, Collective Effervescence (2023) by renowned French multidisciplinary artist is a work not to be missed.

The work was originally presented within Meys, an exhibition inspired by eusocial insects and their collective intelligence. Referencing the concept of “collective effervescence” developed by French sociologist Émile Durkheim, Humeau uses artificial intelligence to imagine ritual behaviours among termite societies, exploring collective action as a shared principle across biological, technological, and social systems.

Marguerite Humeau has been nominated for the 2026 Turner Prize for her exhibition Torches, which opened at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art in May 2025. Humeau’s work will be presented at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) in autumn 2026 as part of the Turner Prize exhibition.

We would like to extend our congratulations to the artist, and we warmly invite you to come and experience her work in person.

Timeline - on view until 7.6

LUKÁŠ NOVÁK x KodlContemporary

How do you work with glass and concrete, two materials that seem so different from each other?

Visit the studio of Lukáš Novák, an artist and conceptual glassmaker, and discover the work behind the exhibition SILICA, held at Galerie U Betlémské kaple April 22 – May 31.

The SILICA project represents a fundamental shift in the artist’s approach to material and to the very nature of the art object itself.

The exhibition is the result of a long-term collaboration between the artist and KodlContemporary.
