Prague Quadrennial (PQ) is the largest international event in the field of scenography, performance design and performance space. PQ is initiated by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and organized by the Czech Cultural Institute. PQ aims to create opportunities for the presentation of contemporary scenography and performance design, to map and support innovative work in this field, and to provide an inclusive space for dialogue between professionals, students, and the wider public. The Prague Quadrennial was founded in 1967 in Prague and has been held every four years without interruption. At each of its editions, participants from an expanding number of countries and regions, often exceeding 80, gather in Prague to present their work in the field of performance design and space. Although the origins of PQ can be traced back to the São Paulo Art Biennial in Brazil, today PQ combines elements of both an exhibition and a live arts festival, and its program typically includes hundreds of exhibitions, installations, performances, workshops, and professional discussions. As a festival event held every four years, PQ consists of several program sections, both competitive and non-competitive. Some of them, such as the traditional Exhibition of Countries and Regions and the Student Exhibition, are curated by representatives of the participating countries and regions, while other program sections are prepared by the international PQ curatorial team. Each edition of PQ is unique, and its form grows out of the vision of the artistic leadership. In between its editions, PQ functions as a continuous platform that creates opportunities for international exchange in the field of scenography through special projects, artist residencies, symposia, and publications. The 16th edition of the Prague Quadrennial will take place in June 2027.

🐝 Představujeme vám další součást Pražského Quadriennale 2027 – PQ Hive se stane laboratoří, kde se děti seznámí se současným uvažováním o divadle a scénografii a na vlastní kůži zažijí společnou uměleckou tvorbu.

🧵 Pod vedením kurátorky programu Natálie Rajnišová se školní skupiny z celého Česka mohou zapojit do společného projektu na motivy absence a ticha, zatímco nejmenší tvůrci a tvůrkyně ze ZUŠ nebo DDM navrhnou vlastní kostým s tajnou superschopností.

Práce školních skupin i jednotlivců se stanou součástí interaktivní instalace přímo v průběhu Quadriennale. Součástí PQ Hive budou také praktické workshopy, kde si děti budou moci vyzkoušet tvorbu za pomoci různých nástrojů a materiálů.

🐝 We are introducing PQ Hive – a laboratory for children’s imagination, creativity, and hands-on making at the Prague Quadrennial 2027. Through textiles, costumes, and playful experimentation, young participants will explore scenography and join a collective artistic process.

🧵 Curator Natálie Rajnišová invites children to create, imagine, and tell their own stories. Elementary school groups across Czechia are invited to explore ideas of absence and silence, while young creators from arts schools and artistic kids’ and youth centers are challenged to imagine a costume with a secret superpower.

Works of both school groups and individuals will become part of an interactive installation during the Quadrennial. PQ Hive will also offer hands-on workshops where children can experiment with creation using different tools and materials.

📣✨ Seznamte se s Annou Chlíbcovou, naší vedoucí produkce!

Anna má za sebou přes 15 let zkušeností s divadelní produkcí a kulturním managementem. Součástí týmu PQ je od ledna 2025. Dříve pracovala v Divadlo Bratří Formanů , kde měla na starosti produkci několika velkých projektů včetně Loď Tajemství , mezinárodního festivalu divadla a nového cirkusu ARENA - festival Divadla Bratří Formanů nebo inscenace Ptačí sněm v režii Petra Formana, kterou pomáhala uvést v řadě evropských měst.

V Pražském Quadriennale Anna vede produkční tým a proměňuje plány a koncepce PQ 2027 ve skutečnost – od řešení prostor a logistiky až po lidi a procesy, které jsou pro fungování akce klíčové.

📣✨ Meet Anna Chlíbcová, our Head of Production!

With more than 15 years of experience in theatre production and arts management, Anna joined PQ in January 2025. Before, she worked with the Forman Brothers Theatre, where she oversaw production of several major projects, including The Mysterious Boat, the international theatre and new circus festival ARENA, and The Conference of the Birds production, directed by Petr Forman, which she helped to stage in many countries across Europe.

At Prague Quadrennial, Anna leads the production team, turning the plans for PQ 2027 into reality. From venues and logistics to the people and processes behind the festival.

👋 And now, she is looking for someone to join her team – a Staff Manager to help build and coordinate the team of staff members and volunteers.

📣✨ Seznamte se s týmem Pražského Quadriennale! 👋
Za přípravou PQ 2027 stojí řada lidí a některé z nich vám postupně představíme.

Dnes se můžete seznámit s Barča Laierová, vedoucí programového oddělení a manažerkou výstav.

Poprvé se Bára k PQ připojila v roce 2023 jako lokační manažerka Výstavy zemí a regionů. O dva roky později nastoupila na svoji aktuální pozici.

Její práce spočívá v organizaci a koordinaci programu PQ 2027 a primárně jeho výstav, které propojí umělce a umělkyně, scénografy a scénografky, divadelní tvůrce a tvůrkyně i publikum z celého světa. Bára pochází z jižních Čech, kde také spolupracuje na přípravách projektu Budějovice 2028 : Evropské hlavní město kultury.

Preparing PQ 2027 takes a big group of people, and over the coming weeks, we are introducing some of them.

Meet Barča Laierová our Head of Program and Exhibitions Manager.

Bára joined Prague Quadrennial in 2023 as a Location Manager for the Exhibition of Countries and Regions and, two years later, stepped into her current role.

Her work focuses on shaping and coordinating the program and exhibitions that bring together artists, scenographers, theatre-makers, and audiences from around the world. Born and raised in Southern Bohemia, Bára is also part of the team preparing Budějovice 2028 – European Capital of Culture.

Now, her team is growing! ✨ We are looking for a Program Coordinator to help prepare the program schedule for Prague Quadrennial 2027.

Během léta rozšiřujeme organizační tým PQ, a postupně vám proto představíme některé z vašich možných budoucích kolegů a kolegyň – lidí pracujících na přípravách Pražského Quadriennale 2027.

Poprvé se Adam do PQ zapojil v roce 2019 jako produkční oceněného projektu Studentské výstavy Praha není Česko. Expozici vytvořily*i studující a absolventi*ky Divadelní fakulta JAMU, kde v té době dokončoval divadelní manažerství. Po práci v médiích a public relations se Adam v roce 2022 na PQ vrátil a od té doby vede jeho komunikaci.

🎙️Pokud Quadriennale sledujete delší dobu, s Adamem a jeho prací jste se nejspíš už setkali*y – na tiskových konferencích a akcích PQ, které někdy spolumoderuje, skrze texty a newslettery, které píše, nebo videa, která příležitostně stříhá. Primárně ale jeho práce spočívá v plánování a koordinaci komunikace PQ, koncepcích, rozpočtech, smlouvách, výběrových řízeních a tak...

As we expand the PQ organizing team over the summer, we are introducing some of your potential future colleagues – the people working on the preparations for the Prague Quadrennial 2027.

📱 Until the end of July, you can apply for the position of Content Creator & Social Media Manager and the Communications Assistant internship. We are therefore starting with Adam from our communications team: Adam Dudek

Adam first became involved with PQ in 2019 as a production manager for the awarded Student Exhibition project Praha není Česko / Prague is not Czech. The exhibit was created by students and graduates of Divadelní fakulta JAMU, where he was completing his studies in theater management at the time. After working in media and public relations, Adam returned to PQ in 2022 and has been managing its communications since.

🎙️If you have been following the Quadrennial for a while, you have probably already come across Adam or his work – at PQ press conferences and events he sometimes co-hosts, through the texts and newsletters he writes, or in videos he occasionally edits. Most of his work, however, happens behind the scenes: planning and coordinating PQ communications, developing communication concepts, managing budgets, contracts, tenders, and making sure everything runs smoothly.

Across nearly 500 pages, the publication presents all the works, projects, artists, and institutions that took part in the 15th Prague Quadrennial. The catalogue includes extensive photo documentation, offering countless perspectives on contemporary scenography and performance design.

📕 The printed edition of the Catalogue is available for €35 plus shipping via the Prospero bookshop.

🔗 Together with recordings of PQ symposia from recent years – now available to watch via MY PQ – the PQ 2023 Catalogue offers a great summer resource for inspiration ahead of the next Quadrennial in June 2027.
