❤️🩹Getting a tattoo can be therapeutic, but IT IS NOT Therapy!❤️🩹
How far can human minds go to sell themselves?
A lot of tattoos I’ve got (and also I’ve did!) were therapeutic, but please, the tattooer is not a therapist. Tattoos can be healing at the moment, close a chapter or help move you somewhere new etc., but as long as your tattoo artist is not a real therapist as well (🤡), tattoo itself won’t heal your trauma or anything else.
Why do I say this ?
Because I find this new trend of considering tattoo as a therapy or a sacred transformative ceremony or whatever like this pretty false and little bit dangerous, I’d say, because it just eats your money through promising some transformation (?), while in many cases people should find a profesional mental help. Again-I would say.
Tattooer is an artist and the tattoo approach can be holistic ( I guess I try to do it this way ) but they are not a therapist or guru or whatever bigger than you which will solve your problems. Tattooer hopefully listen to you and your needs, they make a safe space for you and talk to you, so you probabbly feel relief after the session, with a piece of art on you. It can be a nice supplement, but never propper therapy.
A lot of us ourselves visit our own therapist and try to survive in this neurotypical world. So I suppose we shouldn’t sell our art as a therapy without any education like this. I guess it is a marketing idea but that’s it.
Once I wrote a song and there is a chorus: “It’s not sacred, it’s usual.” Yes, it applies to this as well.
Please pick your artist carefully and pay for unique art and maybe an experience which also comfort your soul, but not for a therapy session 🧡
