Hello, dearest followers.
2020 proved to be the hardest year yet for almost everyone of us, especially in the culture and/or entertainment industry.
Losing loved ones or losing your livelihood/life's work (due to restrictions) has been all too common experiences, and entering 2021 I feel incredibly grateful just to still be alive (along with my loved ones) and to have a roof over my head as well as food on the table. With also having lost the more part of my livelihood and regular work during 2020, especially with the mental challenges, anxiety and doubt that entails, I also feel extremely grateful for having been awarded some monetary crisis support/scholarships during the last months of 2020.
This past year has been chaotic for all of us, and I haven't been alone in considering what my options are, and how to move forward for the time being in this extremely uncertain climate and future ahead. And with this, also taking my major (other) interests into account.
So whilst I have no plans to stop writing/creating art/performances, run Pershagen Gallery or Tempus Fugit or being on stage, there is something I'll be embarking on this month (January 2021) that will make me "scale back" on my decade long full time work as a freelance/independent artist.
From January 2021 - January 2026 (pretty unfathomable), I'll be pursuing my Master of Psychology (Psykologprogrammet) with full time studies at Stockholm University, and it's as exciting as it is terrifying.
Getting the opportunity to pursue one more professional career (studies wise) at my age (as I turned 35 in December 2020) makes me incredibly humble and grateful, and I don't think this news comes as a surprise to neither my friends or my audience as my interest in different aspects of psychology has been a cornerstone in my work over these past years (and a life long personal interest). Being accepted as one of the lucky few to get to embark on this journey, and university education, still feels pretty unreal.
With this post, I just wanted to let you know that even if my full time focus for the time being till be on my upcoming studies, there are still exciting projects for both Pershagen Gallery and Tempus Fugit ahead in 2021, and (knowing myself) probably also other artistic projects, in the form of plays/performances.
Thank you so much to everyone who has been and continue to be beside me on this journey, thank you to everyone who has seen (and responded overwhelmingly to) MENS REA (still available for on-demand streaming, for voluntary donations), that turned out to be my only live/on-stage performance of 2020, and thank you for making me feel that my work has made a difference for you in some way or form. You are everything to me.
This is in no way the end, of anything. It's just the beginning.
All my love / Rebecka
PS. Please continue to support your local artists and creatives, who are experiencing unprecedented challenges. The consequences of this pandemic, beyond the tragic loss of lives, are impossible to fathom for the culture and/or entertainment industry (especially the small/self employed businesses), and this is the time to show your true colors. DS.
