Dalším motivem z nové kolekce záložek, kterou jsem vytvořila pro Knihy Dobrovský, je Kitsune (狐). 💙 Kolekce je tentokrát inspirovaná světem japonského folklóru a yōkai.

Kitsune je magická liška, známá svou inteligencí, dlouhověkostí a schopností měnit podobu – často se dokáže proměnit v člověka. 🦊 V příbězích může vystupovat jako mazaný šprýmař, ale také jako věrný ochránce.

Čím je kitsune starší a mocnější, tím více může mít ocasů – nejvýše devět. Devítiocasá liška je považována za mimořádně moudrou a mocnou. Kitsune jsou také úzce spojovány s božstvem Inari, jehož mohou být posly.

Another design from the new bookmark collection I created for Knihy Dobrovský is Kitsune (狐). 💙 This collection is inspired by the world of Japanese folklore and yōkai.

Kitsune is a magical fox, known for its intelligence, longevity, and ability to shapeshift – often taking on a human form. 🦊 In Japanese stories, kitsune can appear as a clever trickster, but also as a loyal protector.

The older and more powerful a kitsune becomes, the more tails it may have – up to nine. A nine-tailed fox is considered exceptionally wise and powerful. Kitsune are also closely associated with the deity Inari, whom they may serve as messengers.

Dalším motivem z nové kolekce záložek, kterou jsem vytvořila pro Knihy Dobrovský, je Yūrei (幽霊). 💙 Kolekce je tentokrát inspirovaná světem japonského folklóru a yōkai.

Yūrei jsou duchové zemřelých, kteří podle japonských pověstí nenašli klid a zůstávají ve světě živých. Často je zde drží silné emoce, jako je smutek, láska, žárlivost nebo touha po pomstě.

Tradičně jsou zobrazováni v bílém pohřebním oděvu, s dlouhými černými vlasy a bez viditelných nohou. 👻 Někteří jsou neškodní, zatímco jiní se vracejí, aby se pomstili nebo dokončili něco, co za svého života nestihli.

Yūrei are spirits of the dead who, according to Japanese folklore, have not found peace and remain in the world of the living. They are often bound to this world by powerful emotions such as grief, love, jealousy, or a desire for revenge.

They are traditionally depicted wearing white burial clothing, with long black hair and no visible feet. 👻 Some may be harmless, while others return to seek revenge or finish something left unresolved during their lifetime.

Jsem moc ráda, že vám můžu představit novou kolekci záložek, které jsem vytvořila pro Knihy Dobrovský! 💙 Tentokrát jsem se při jejich tvorbě ponořila do světa japonského folklóru a démonů yōkai.

Tato záložka zobrazuje Tengu (天狗) – legendární bytost, která žije především v horách a bývá spojována s bojovým uměním, nadpřirozenými schopnostmi a ochranou posvátných míst.

Tengu poznáte především podle jeho červené tváře a charakteristického dlouhého nosu. 👺 V japonských příbězích může vystupovat jako nebezpečný a zlomyslný tvor, ale také jako ochránce nebo učitel.

I’m so happy to finally introduce a new collection of bookmarks I created for Knihy Dobrovský! 💙 This time, I dove into the world of Japanese folklore and yōkai.

This bookmark features Tengu (天狗) – a legendary creature said to dwell mainly in the mountains, often associated with martial arts, supernatural powers, and the protection of sacred places.

Tengu is best recognized by its red face and distinctive long nose. 👺 In Japanese stories, it can appear as a dangerous and mischievous being, but also as a protector or teacher.

So it’s official, I closed my Etsy shop. In the beginning, when the US tariffs changed, I still had hope that everything will go back to how it used to be. But iťs been a year now and things are still the same. Even worse actually, because EU is forcing all businesses to pay mandatory fees if you’re sending anything outside of your residential country to make you responsible for creating ‘packaging waste’ in another country. But this is a story for another time.

Honestly, in the beginning of this whole thing, when I JUST started to earn good money from Etsy and the laws changed, I was still hopeful. After a year I realized I just don’t have it in me. Many of my talented friends are still running an Etsy shop despite these difficulties, but I just couldn’t anymore. It didn’t make sense for me and I felt like such a failure. 😅

But I don’t want to be comparing myself to anyone. This was one of the battles I had to give up because it consumed too much time and gave me a huge headache.

I really want to thank ♡Simonka♡ and Lucie Ell | slavic village art & stickers who are PROS in selling online on Etsy. Whenever I was struggling, they always guided me, helped me and sent me current information about shipping laws. They are masters in this and I am lucky to have them.

I have been posting on instagram since 2013 and intensively for the past three years. When I started doing more serious content, I always had this goal of reaching 10k followers one day. No overnight success, no viral videos with millions of views. Just patience and hard work for many many years.

Thank you for following my journey of rediscovering my Vietnamese heritage, or becoming a professional illustrator. Each of you hit that button for a different reason. Maybe you saw yourself in me, maybe you connected with my art or maybe you just believed in me and decided to support me. Whatever reason you are here, you made this happen. And here we are, together celebrating 10k followers.

For me, it’s not just a number. It’s proof that I made ten thousand people connect with me. And I am eternally grateful. 💙

Vietnamese proverb of the day - “Lá lành đùm lá rách”. In the illustration I depicted a mother holding her child, protecting her when the world is too much for her. I felt like motherly love was a perfect fit for the message that this proverb was trying to convey. They are surrounded by small dry leaves that are too weak to stand alone at the moment. But there are other big leaves that are protecting the weak ones from the scorching sun. This is how compassion and solidarity feels like to me. 🫂
