I’ve spent the past couple months (with interruptions for eye surgery and the holidays) working on finishing a pair of hand-pieced grandmother’s garden quilt tops into finished quilts for two lovely young sisters. The tops were pieced by their grandmother back in the 1970s and have been waiting for the right kids to come along 💜
Technical details: the quilts were finished using the “bagging” technique, as I did NOT want to deal with binding the irregular edges of the hexagons (and we didn’t want to cut the edges straight either!). Once the sandwich was finished and topstitched, I hand tied the quilts on my hands and knees on my living room floor 😀 I gave them a good long soak to remove the excess dye - and good thing I did because Grandma had used an Evil Red Fabric that bled badly! But they’re good to go now and will hopefully serve their young friends well for years to come. Thank you for the opportunity to create two beautiful family heirlooms!

Warning: BIG BRAG!
I entered the PPM quilt show on a whim, because one of the competition categories was Kaleidoscope and I had just about finished this top. It was a race to get it finished, but my super longarmer Renka patchwork did an amazing job, and after I spent the best part of a day hand stitching the binding, it was expressed mailed to Brno, where it went up against 18 other quilts and was judged 7th best. Not too shabby for my first quilt show!!!

SOLID LIQUID GAS is finished and off to Brno, where it will be part of this year's Prague Patchwork Meetup (this year called PPM) in the Kaleidoscope category. My first show...zero expectations because I made the top before I knew I was going to enter it in a show and it's beyond wonky 🙃

So I did a thing. I entered a quilt in the Prague Patchwork Meetup, which will actually be held in Brno at the big exhibition grounds in late April. I had no intention of ever showing this quilt (this is just a closeup, the actual quilt isn't quite finished yet...), but when I saw one of the categories was Kaleidoscope, I knew it was meant to be. I have no hopes of winning anything - it is by no means show quality and I have no time to re-sew wonky seams. But at least I'm putting myself out there 👍

And here she is! My finished top! So thrilled with how it turned out. .be Bec, what a great pattern - so fun to make! 💜 Now to sort out some borders and get 'er off to to add her magical quilting touches 💜

It's the final piece of applique on my by .be. Can't wait to stitch the nine sections together into one big panel....then to sort out borders and backing. Of course the binding will be scrappy 😎

Two sections done, seven to go! I gave up on needle-turn applique on these small leaf/petal shapes - too frustrating! So I'm fusing and machine stitching some, hand stitching when I'm feeling up for it :) This fab scrap buster pattern is by .be 💜

I've just learned about the fabric markets in Hong Kong...hooo boy can't wait to be able to travel there again...

Making progress on my (supposed) scrap buster quilt...I see zero difference in the size of the scrap pile🤨🤪....still to come....a ton of applique leaves and hexies 😳 by .be

Without a doubt one of the finest Sawtooth Star blocks I've ever made! Look at those points! Look at those seam allowances! 🤩🤩🤩 One of many for the by .be. I like quilts with lots of different kinds of blocks. You can set them up and crank them out while watching on !!
