THIS IS WHERE OUR STORY ENDS
After a certain period of struggle, we have to announce the death of both Other Inside project and Vicious Mime "studio". It's time to stop ignoring the obvious truth that we are not able to pull a project of such proportions. What started as a small side-scroller puzzle game grew into a story-based branching puzzle-platformer action adventure with somewhat dynamically simulated emotional state and aspirations of the main protagonist. On top of that, we used our own proprietary game engine to power all of this. Moreover, we were able to work on the game only during the weekends and after our daily jobs. Total madness.
Until recently, we have somehow overlooked the bigger picture. We started this project as absolute amateurs (although we thought otherwise). We didn't know how to manage it or how to write design documents, scripts, etc. We grew a lot and learned a bunch. At least we learned when to stop. 😅
Apart from a lot of experience and a pretty clear vision of what is possible and what is not, this project left behind one quite cool tool for branched story-writing. Vicious Mime exists no more but one of us remains dedicated to (hobby) game development. New plans for a much smaller but still pretty cool game project are already emerging.
So this is our farewell. Thank you all for being with us. 🤝
