Information

The Brno House of Arts international residency programme has been launched with the objective to develop opportunities for an exchange of ideas and opinions between the Czech and international arts scenes, and for further expanding the current position of the Brno House of Arts as a complex intermediator of contemporary art towards an active artistic environment. Visual artists in various disciplines, whose works are based on an idea not depending on form, curators and researchers in the field of contemporary art, architects and designers are invited to take part in the residencies. The residency is conceived as a medium for the realisation of artistic projects and experiments, as a format for artistic activities that need not necessarily lead to an exhibition in the traditional sense of the word, but also to other means of presentation. Research projects mapping the environment and introducing new stimuli, and especially socially engaged projects that induce further discussion, are most welcome. The presentations of works and of the residents’ creative process take the format of open studios. Residents will be incorporated within the Brno House of Arts regular programme events. are organised on an individual basis. A closer interconnection of the residency programmes is planned with the G99 gallery as a space for the presentation of selected residents’ works in form of exhibitions. Contacts within our broader collaboration scheme include other arts institutions, schools, galleries and museums, independent curators and art theorists. Very first artists in residence will be staying and working at the Brno House of Arts upon invitation by the Meeting Brno Festival. The idea of mobility and mutual exchange is strongly encouraged. Residencies are organised by the Brno House of Arts in collaboration with the City of Brno. The facilities for the residencies on the third floor of the House of the Lords of Kunštát are now under reconstruction. The residency programme is now in its preparation phase. It will be launched at the beginning of 2017. Selection of residents

Artists are invited for a residency on the basis of a recommendation from partner institutions that should be in agreement with the standpoint of a committee appointed by the Brno House of Arts for the selection procedure. Applicants complying with the conditions of our partners can send their submissions through these partners. Open calls are organised on an irregular basis – information on current calls is available at the Brno House of Arts website or the Facebook site. Conditions of the residency

Residents at the Brno House of Arts are obliged to spend at least three quarters of their stay on the site of the residency. Communication languages are English and Czech. The artist undertakes to elaborate a final report with photographic documentation from the course of the residency. The costs of the studios and accommodation units operation are taken in charge by the Brno House of Arts. Production, promotion and curatorial support is also provided. The cost of travelling, per diems and material are covered within the co-operation between partners, or possibly from grants. The venue and equipment

The third floor of the House of the Lords of Kunštát, refurbished so that to accommodate the residency programme, offers facilities for both the stay and work of artists. Two studios, an office for a theorist and rooms for the accommodation of residents are available. The kitchen, equipped for joint use of the residents, serves at the same time as a living room. A basic set of tools are available for the artists. When realising their works, artists may ask the Brno House of Arts technicians for expert advice and assistance. Contact

Mamorost. Kde chybí matka, roste les.🌿

22. 5. proběhla v rámci výstavy Plevel–Človíček intervence skupiny Mothers Artlovers (Hana Magdoňová, Hana Němečková, Kateřina Olivová, Karin Písaříková a Věra Vtípilová).

Umělkyně hledaly vlastní vztah k výstavě a skrze motiv dítěte–plevele i postavy Otesánka zkoumaly absentující postavu matky. Během plenéru v lese ji performativně ztělesnily jako ženu–rostlinu — mocnou přírodní entitu s tvůrčí silou. Umělkyně si pokrývaly obličej jílem, připoutávaly si k tělu větve a rozšiřovaly svou tělesnost o nové končetiny.

Ve veřejném výstupu následně hledaly způsoby, jak tuto zkušenost přenést i na návštěvnictvo, a vznikla tak performance–workshop s názvem Mamorost. Kde chybí matka, roste les.

Mamorost. Kde chybí matka, roste les.🌿

On May 22, an intervention by the Mothers Artlovers group (Hana Magdoňová, Hana Němečková, Kateřina Olivová, Karin Písaříková and Věra Vtípilová) took place within the exhibition Plevel–Človíček.

The artists explored their relationship to the exhibition and, through the motif of the “weed-child” and the figure of Otesánek, searched for the absent figure of the mother. During an open-air gathering in the forest, they performatively embodied her as a woman–plant hybrid — a powerful natural entity with creative force. The artists covered their faces with clay, attached branches to their bodies, and expanded their physicality with new limbs.

In the public presentation that followed, they searched for ways to transfer this experience to visitors, resulting in the performance workshop Mamorost. Kde chybí matka, roste les.

Lucie Lienerová strávila v loňském roce dva měsíce v , kde mimo jiné pracovala na výstavě PLEVEL – ČLOVÍČEK, kterou můžete navštívit ještě do 24. 5. v G99 v Domě pánů z Kunštátu.

Lucie Lienerová spent two months at BAiR last year, where she worked, among other things, on the exhibition PLEVEL – ČLOVÍČEK, which you can still visit until May 24 at G99 in Dům pánů z Kunštátu.
We would also like to warmly invite you to a workshop with , during which you will have the opportunity to experience the exhibition in a different way and become an active part of it for a moment.

Lištica (Lucie Lienerová) is a graduate of the Painting Department 3 at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. Her work focuses on figurative painting, which she creates primarily using media traditionally associated with drawing, such as crayons, pastels, and wax crayons.
She conceives her current exhibitions as places where the gallery space is not just a backdrop for the exhibited paintings, but as synergical spaces for the interaction of paintings and the specific space of the gallery, which the spectator enters and which affects them as a whole.

The exhibition becomes the third act in the artist’s painterly practice, in which, against a backdrop of posthumanist premises, she develops narratives of transformation between human and plant identities. We find ourselves amid illustrations for an unwritten book, evocatively inviting us to search for a dialogue with a newly emerging offspring — a being whose place between floral and anthropomorphic origins remains ambiguous, if it even exists at all.

.elpelele (Deán Funes, Córdoba, Argentina, 1993) is an artist/character, a phantasmagorical entity that transcends dimensions. Its particular universe is developed and displayed on various materials and platforms, without disciplinary limitations, connecting online and offline life. Performance, sound, poetry and video are some of the spaces of projection through which this artist moves around, not only to explore physical impulses, but also to release the philosophical order that acts as the basis of its corpus of narratives.

Its project has been active since 2014. It lives and works in Buenos Aires.

Účastníky vybrala komise ve složení Jan Langer (koordinátor BAiR), Šimon Kadlčák (kurátor BAiR), Barbora Trnková (kurátorka G99), Sara Märc (výzkumnice a kurátor, externí člen) a Tomáš Javůrek (umělec, externí člen).

Nad rámec vyhlášení výsledků by komise speciálně chtěla zdůraznit nezvykle vysokou kvalitu přihlášených portfolií a projektů v letošním roce. Z celkového počtu 112 přihlášek by si podporu zasloužilo mnohonásobně víc, než pouzí čtyři tvůrci a tvůrkyně. Tým BAiR se proto do budoucna zavazuje zvažovat postupy, jimiž by mohl učinit svoji podporu globální umělecké scéně dostupnější.

Dvouměsíční rezidenční pobyty se uskuteční v termínech 1. 3.–30. 4. 2026 a 15. 5.–15. 7. 2026.

We are pleased to announce that Anna Hawkins (CAN), jiawen uffline (GER) and Flaviu Rogojan (ROM) have been selected for a residency at BAiR in 2026 as a result of an international open call ‘ShadowFrame’.

Additionally, Kristina Cyan (AT) will also take part in the residency by special invitation of G99 Gallery.

The participants were selected by a committee consisting of Jan Langer (BAiR coordinator), Šimon Kadlčák (BAiR curator), Barbora Trnková (G99 curator), Sara Märc (researcher and curator, external member) a Tomáš Javůrek (artist, external member).

In addition to announcing the results, the committee would like to emphasize the unusually high quality of the portfolios and projects submitted this year. Of the total number of 112 applications, many more than just four artists would have deserved our support. The BAiR team is therefore committed to considering ways in which it can make the distribution of its resources more accessible to the global art scene.

The two-month residencies will take place from 1 March–30 April 2026 and 15 May–15 July 2026.
