💫 Art Seen is pleased to announce Andreas Kalli’s solo exhibition, Το Μέλλον του Παρελθόντος // The Future of the Past, opening in one month, on 25 September 2026 at Art Seen by Maria Stathi, Nicosia, Cyprus. Art Seen by Maria Stathi

In this new body of work, Andreas Kalli brings together sculptures, kinetic installations, paintings and prints, exploring the enduring relationship between the individual and their social and existential environment.

Through movement, material and form, Kalli creates self-contained narratives of inner dialogue, where the personal becomes a shared experience.

“Ideas are to objects as constellations are to stars.”
— Walter Benjamin, The Arcades Project

A constellation does not reside in the stars themselves. It lives in the intervals between them, in the lines we draw, the connections we imagine, and the meaning that crystallises through relationships. It is an act of interpretation imposed upon distance.

🔥 We are delighted to announce that Amy Stephens’ Rock Interlude is now part of the State Collection of Cyprus. Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού / Deputy Ministry of Culture

Created in 2025, Rock Interlude brings together limestone and brushed stainless steel, continuing Stephens’ ongoing exploration of the relationship between sculptural material, architecture, landscape and the body.

Presented as part of Nature’s Stage, Amy Stephens’ third solo exhibition at Art Seen (Nov 2025 - Jan 2026), the work reflects the artist’s distinctive ability to transform natural and industrial materials into powerful sculptural encounters with place, form and presence.

⚡️We are proud to see this important work enter the State Collection of Cyprus and to have supported its presentation through Art Seen Art Seen by Maria Stathi

Everything that needs to be said..., 2026
canvas, oil on canvas, each 66 x 112 cm

Presented alongside is a recent work in which Toren reuses the cut-out letters from earlier paintings to compose the phrase: “Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since no one was listening, everything must be said again.” Attributed to André Gide, the text brings his practice full circle—where removal becomes construction, and meaning is continually reactivated through repetition.
Together, these works exemplify Toren’s rigorous and distinctive practice, offering a rare opportunity to engage with a historically significant and institutionally recognised body of work.

Untitled (protest) from the series Armchair Painting, 2022
oil on canvas, 64 x74 cm

Since 1989, Amikam Toren has developed the ongoing Armchair Paintings series, in which he acquires inexpensive oil paintings from flea markets and charity shops and transforms them by cutting stencilled phrases directly into the canvas. Through this precise and reductive intervention, Toren repositions found images as conceptual works that challenge authorship, value and the ontology of painting itself. The texts—drawn from everyday language, signage and popular culture—disrupt and reframe the original image, opening it to new readings.

The title Armchair Paintings playfully references Henri Matisse’s idea of painting as a space of comfort,
who described his ideal artwork as “like a good armchair… a calming influence on the mind.”

Toren subverts this notion, turning the image into a site of tension and critical reflection. Works from this important series are held in major public collections, including Tate Collection.

In As Time Goes By, Diana Taylor brings together painting, pattern and memory through a process of layering, disruption and reconfiguration.

Painting, printmaking and drawing from domestic textiles, archival imagery, ornamental histories and inherited visual structures, Taylor’s work reflects on how the past continues to rupture and reappear in the present. Grids, fragments and traces become a way of holding together what is remembered, what is lost, and what can be reassembled through painting.

Presented as part of Summer Constellations, the painting moves between image and erasure, surface and history, creating a space where time is not linear but layered.

In Ara Pacis Shimmers, Danae Patsalou continues her exploration of the Ara Pacis series, introducing subtle shifts of light that move across the surface of the painting.

These shimmering effects suggest a hidden luminosity emerging from within the composition, opening the work toward a more spiritual and transformative dimension. The image appears neither fixed nor static, but in a state of quiet becoming, shaped by light, contact and an inner sense of movement.
