The Cyprus Dance Education Centre was set up in 2006 by Gonul Ismail, and is located in Famagusta in The Turkish Republican of Northern Cyprus. The school offers IDTA Ballet, Modern Jazz, Gymnastic Dance, Theatre Craft, Musical Theatre, Freestyle & Tap, making The Cyprus Dance Education Centre a ‘One Stop Dance Shop’. The dance school has been approved by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus an

d it is the only one affiliated to an English Dance Exams Board. Gonul Ismail was born in Islington London and her early dance was with Joyce Briggs and Tereza Theodoridou in Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre, National & Tap. Later she embarked on professional career path, taking training with Elizabeth Harrison as her teacher and mentor.Gonul has 6 Associates in Ballet, Modern Jazz, National, Tap, Freestyle and Theatre Craft. Also has her Licentiate in Ballet, fellowship in Freestyle, diploma 1 & 2 in Gymnastic Dance and a certificate from British Gymnastic organisation. For fourteen years she ran the The City Dance Academy in Islington and she trained many students who progressed into teaching careers, one of whom continues as principal of the academy today Kika Macdonald. Other students benefiting from the quality of Gonul’s teaching and motivation and who have moved on to find fame are Leona Lewis, a previous winner of X Factor and Bonnie Wright, who stars as in the Harry Potter films. Gradually, Gonul found the pull of her roots becoming stronger and in 2006, together with her son Biltay, she moved to North Cyprus. Four years of hard work and dedication have created the The Cyprus Dance Education Centre that has a purpose built venue in Famagusta.
