In this rare text, Bill Viola reflects on the relationship between inner and outer images, the experience of time, and the power of moving images to reveal what cannot be seen. Drawing from Renaissance painting, sensory deprivation, memory, birth and death, he considers video not as a medium of representation, but as a way of making visible the invisible connections that shape human experience.

Στο σπάνιο αυτό κείμενο, ο Bill Viola στοχάζεται πάνω στη σχέση μεταξύ εσωτερικών και εξωτερικών εικόνων, την εμπειρία του χρόνου και την ικανότητα της κινούμενης εικόνας να αποκαλύπτει το αόρατο. Αντλώντας από την αναγεννησιακή ζωγραφική, τη μνήμη, τη γέννηση και τον θάνατο, αντιλαμβάνεται το βίντεο ως ένα μέσο που καθιστά ορατές τις αόρατες δομές και συνδέσεις της ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the lecture by Andrés Jaque , presented by the .architects.association in collaboration with PSI Foundation

Founder of the Office for Political Innovation and Professor at Columbia University, Jaque is internationally recognized for his research into the political, ecological, and social dimensions of architecture.

Through a reflection on architecture across scales the evening opened a space for discussing new ways of understanding the built environment and its entanglement with contemporary life.

Ευχαριστούμε όσες και όσους παρευρέθηκαν στη διάλεξη του Andrés Jaque, η οποία πραγματοποιήθηκε από τον Σύλλογο Αρχιτεκτόνων Κύπρου σε συνεργασία με στο PSI Foundation.

Ιδρυτής του Office for Political Innovation και καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Columbia, ο Jaque συγκαταλέγεται στις σημαντικότερες προσωπικότητες της σύγχρονης αρχιτεκτονικής, με έργο που διερευνά τις πολιτικές, οικολογικές και κοινωνικές διαστάσεις του δομημένου περιβάλλοντος.

Μέσα από μια προσέγγιση της αρχιτεκτονικής που διαπερνά διαφορετικές κλίμακες, η βραδιά άνοιξε έναν χώρο προβληματισμού γύρω από νέους τρόπους κατανόησης του δομημένου περιβάλλοντος και της σχέσης του με τη σύγχρονη ζωή.

First presented as part of Buried Secrets the exhibition with which Bill Viola represented the United States at the 46th Venice Biennale in 1995, The Greeting remains one of the artist's most celebrated works. Inspired by Pontormo's Visitation, it transforms a fleeting encounter into a meditation on time, emotion, and human relationships.

Το έργο παρουσιάστηκε για πρώτη φορά στο πλαίσιο της έκθεσης Buried Secrets, με την οποία ο Bill Viola εκπροσώπησε τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες στην 46η Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας το 1995. Tο The Greeting αποτελεί ένα από τα πιο εμβληματικά έργα του. The .architects.association in collaboration with PSI Foundation, presents a lecture by Andrés Jaque
titled Transscalar Architecture.

One of the leading voices in contemporary architectural thought, Andrés Jaque explores through his work the relationship between architecture, ecology, politics, technology, and social structures.

The lecture will reflect on architecture as a transscalar practice — operating from the scale of the body and the building to the city and wider ecological systems.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the exhibition Bill Viola. Unspoken before and after the lecture.

Μία από τις σημαντικότερες φωνές της σύγχρονης αρχιτεκτονικής σκέψης, ο Andrés Jaque διερευνά μέσα από το έργο του τη σχέση της αρχιτεκτονικής με την οικολογία, την πολιτική, την τεχνολογία και τις κοινωνικές δομές.

Η διάλεξη θα εξετάσει πώς η αρχιτεκτονική λειτουργεί διακλιμακωτά — από το σώμα και το κτήριο έως την πόλη και τα ευρύτερα οικολογικά συστήματα.
