Specialized guided tour to Bill Viola. Unspoken led by Yiannis Violaris, Archaeological Officer of the Department of Antiquities at Limassol District, in an attempt to approach Bill Viola’s work from an archaeological perspective and relate it to Cyprus’ historical past.

Bill Viola's multifaceted oeuvre allows multidisciplinary approaches. Throughout his career, he remained in constant dialogue with the art of the past. Believing that the speed of modern life causes us to lose sight of what is essential, he employed techniques such as slow motion to draw attention to what often escapes our perception.

Contemporary archaeology has similar goals: Museums and Archaeological Sites offer to modern floundering human beings the safety of contact with the stability of the past.

Knowledge of Bill Viola's work is not required; however, a prior visit to the exhibition is recommended, as the guided tour will focus in part on selected works from the exhibition.

Εξειδικευμένη ξενάγηση στην έκθεση Bill Viola. Unspoken με καθοδηγητή τον Γιάννη Βιολάρη, Αρχαιολογικό Λειτουργό του Τμήματος Αρχαιοτήτων στην Επαρχία Λεμεσού, σε
μια απόπειρα προσέγγισης του έργου του Bill Viola από αρχαιολογικής σκοπιάς και σύνδεσής του με το ιστορικό παρελθόν της Κύπρου.

Το πολυεπίπεδο έργο του Bill Viola επιδέχεται διεπιστημονικής προσέγγισης. Bρισκόταν σε συνεχή διάλογο με την τέχνη του παρελθόντος. Πίστευε ότι η ταχύτητα της σύγχρονης ζωής οδηγεί στην απώλεια της ουσίας και χρησιμοποιώντας, για παράδειγμα, την αργή κίνηση προσπάθησε να αναδείξει όλα αυτά που χάνουμε.

Ανάλογους στόχους έχει σήμερα και η αρχαιολογία: Τα Μουσεία και οι Αρχαιολογικοί Χώροι προσφέρουν στον σύγχρονο κλυδωνιζόμενο άνθρωπο την ασφάλεια της επαφής με την σταθερότητα του παρελθόντος.

Δεν απαιτείται γνώση του έργου του Bill Viola, συστήνεται όμως μια επίσκεψη προηγουμένως, καθώς η ξενάγηση θα εστιάσει αποσπασματικά σε επιλεγμένα έργα της
έκθεσης.

Today marks two years since the passing of Bill Viola (1951–2024).

One of his earliest video works, the Return traces the repeated approach of a solitary figure towards an unseen destination. The journey unfolds in cycles—each return becoming another beginning, each repetition another possibility for transformation.

Across five decades of practice, Bill Viola invited us to reconsider our experience of time, to look more slowly, and to encounter the moving image as a space for reflection.

His work continues to return to us.

Σήμερα συμπληρώνονται δύο χρόνια από τον θάνατο του Bill Viola (1951–2024).

Ένα από τα πρώιμα έργα του, το The Return, ακολουθεί την επαναλαμβανόμενη πορεία μιας μοναχικής μορφής προς έναν αθέατο προορισμό. Το ταξίδι εξελίσσεται κυκλικά· κάθε επιστροφή γίνεται μια νέα αρχή και κάθε επανάληψη μια ακόμη δυνατότητα μεταμόρφωσης.

Σε μια πορεία που διήρκεσε περισσότερες από πέντε δεκαετίες, ο Bill Viola μάς κάλεσε να επανεξετάσουμε την εμπειρία του χρόνου, να κοιτάξουμε πιο αργά και να βιώσουμε την κινούμενη εικόνα ως έναν χώρο στοχασμού.

Το έργο του εξακολουθεί να επιστρέφει σε εμάς.

An Embodied Encounter with Bill Viola

A guided practice on the occasion of Bill Viola. Unspoken with artist Lia Haraki

🟡🟠Saturday 27 June, 11:00 & 12:30

Join artist Lia Haraki for a unique guided visit to Bill Viola's work, experienced through her embodied practice of "Vesseling" and empathetic viewing. Rather than observing the artworks from a distance, participants will be invited to tune into their own bodies, emotions, sensations, and breathing as they experience Viola's powerful video installations.

Through gentle guidance, the tour becomes a shared journey of presence, perception, and empathy, allowing one's inner experience to interact with the creative reality.

No preparation is needed—simply bring your body, your senses, and your breath.

Duration: approximately 50-60 minutes

Language: English

Η καλλιτέχνιδα Λία Χαράκη παρουσιάζει μια μοναδική βιωματική περιήγηση στο έργο του Bill Viola, μέσα από την βιωματική πρακτική του «Vesseling» και την ενσυναισθητική θέαση. Αντί να παρατηρούν τα έργα από απόσταση, οι συμμετέχοντες καλούνται να συντονιστούν με το σώμα, τα συναισθήματα, τις αισθήσεις και την αναπνοή τους, βιώνοντας τις ισχυρές βιντεοεγκαταστάσεις του Viola.

Μέσα από μια ήπια καθοδήγηση, η περιήγηση μετατρέπεται σε ένα κοινό ταξίδι παρουσίας, αντίληψης και ενσυναίσθησης, επιτρέποντας στην εσωτερική εμπειρία να αλληλεπιδράσει με την καλλιτεχνική πραγματικότητα.
