In The Rise of the Sun, the Fall of Time, Danae Patsalou presents, among other works, a series inspired by the Ara Pacis, one of the most significant monuments of ancient Roman art and architecture.

Reimagined through painting, its intricate reliefs become contemporary compositions where form, light, and time unfold gradually.

Marking the beginning of spring, The Edit Gallery presents The Rise of the Sun, the Fall of Time, Danae Patsalou’s second solo exhibition at the gallery.

Through paintings and drawings, Patsalou reflects on time, memory, and renewal, bringing together two moments of revelation: the daily emergence of the rising sun and the resurfacing of objects once buried beneath the earth. In both nature and archaeology, what was once hidden gradually comes into view.

The Edit Gallery director Elena Ioannidou reflects on the rhetoric of portraiture and the visual tension created between subject and viewer in Apovathra, the photographic series by Christos Hadjichristou.

Through gaze, stillness, and spatial presence, the works explore the subtle dynamics that unfold within the photographic frame.

In the Power Beach series, against the neutral horizon of the sea, the body becomes the primary structure. The images function almost like a typology. The same athlete is photographed under consistent conditions, each pose isolating a different configuration (frontality, rotation, contraction, extension). Repetition allows subtle shifts in tension and balance to emerge.
What unfolds is a measured study of discipline and form.

Almost flying! This image carries a striking sense of elevation, the body is defying gravity for a fleeting moment as if it could drift beyond the frame. And yet, beneath the lightness lies absolute control! The stability of the hand and the focus of the body remind us that nothing is accidental. It is balance mastered just like in photography where what feels effortless is in fact the result of control, timing, and awareness!

In Apovathra, the subjects meet the lens directly, creating an immediate exchange that dissolves the distance between viewer and photographed subject.

Set against the coastal landscape, the work captures a transitional stage between adolescence and adulthood, a moment suspended between vulnerability and self-assertion.
