Along the 2025 Line and Trace : A Thank You Note from the Larnaca Biennale Team

As the final hours of 2025 slip away, we reflect on the remarkable journey of our 4th edition, Along Lines and Traces—an edition that explored paths drawn, memories preserved, and the imprints that connected artists, visitors, and our community.

This year carried special significance, marking 10 years of continuous work, devotion, and creative resilience from the Larnaca Biennale Team. A decade after from an idea to realisation, the impact speaks louder than words.

Our deepest gratitude goes to Sana López Abellán, whose exceptional professionalism, sensitivity, and attention to detail embraced every artwork and every artist with extraordinary care. Her curatorial vision wove together the lines, traces, and stories that shaped this edition.

To every artist, visitor, sponsor, supporter, partner and creative associate who shared our vision—thank you. Your presence and support transformed this edition into an experience of exploration and connection.

Although the linear progression of time marked its closure, the traces of this edition continue, echoing in future collaborations, ideas, and artistic dialogues. Along Lines and Traces does not end here; it extends forward.

As we begin preparations for our 5th edition in 2027, we will keep sharing glimpses of this year—moments, performances, interviews, and stories that capture the essence of Larnaca Biennale.

We are proud to work alongside creatives and associates who elevate our vision in every edition.

Ένα εξαιρετικό επεισόδιο της σειράς Art in the City από το Γραφείο Τύπου και Πληροφοριών - Press and Information Office της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, που αποτυπώνει την ουσία και το αποτύπωμα της Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας 2025 μέσα από τους καλλιτέχνες που συμμετείχαν.

"Η Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας μετατρέπει την πόλη σε ζωντανό καμβά.
Καλλιτέχνες από την Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό συναντιούνται στον δημόσιο χώρο, δημιουργώντας έργα που συνομιλούν με την ιστορία, την καθημερινότητα και τους ανθρώπους της πόλης.

Η τέχνη στη σύγχρονη πόλη δεν είναι διακόσμηση· είναι διάλογος, παρέμβαση και τρόπος να ξαναδούμε τον χώρο που μοιραζόμαστε."

Μέσα από τη σειρά αφιερωμάτων του , παρουσιάζεται το έργο Κυπρίων καλλιτεχνών από διαφορετικούς χώρους της τέχνης, στο πλαίσιο της προβολής της ιστορικής και πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς της Κύπρου.

The final educational workshop of the Larnaca Biennale children’s programme, the Box of Metamorphosis !

Young artists using play, collaboration, and storytelling, created small stage scenes, transforming everyday items into magical elements, while fostering creativity and freedom of expression.

⭐The outcome of the creations from the six educational workshops is showcased in a collective artistic installation at the first floor of the Municipal Market of Larnaca, inviting the public to interact and continue the ‘journey’ of creation even after the closing of our edition.

Engaging with art from a young age is not merely entertaining; it is a valuable tool for development, nurturing imagination, strengthening self-confidence, and opening pathways to creative thinking. This is why initiatives like this hold special importance for us.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in and supported this beautiful process!

Στο τελευταίο εκπαιδευτικό εργαστήριο Το Κουτί της Μεταμόρφωσης, οι μικροί μας δημιουργοί μέσα από παιχνίδι, συνεργασία και αφήγηση, δημιούργησαν μικρές σκηνές, μεταμορφώνοντας καθημερινά αντικείμενα σε μαγικά στοιχεία, ενώ ταυτόχρονα καλλιεργησαν τη δημιουργικότητα και την ελευθερία της έκφρασης.

⭐Οι δημιουργίες και των έξι εκπαιδευτικών εργαστηρίων ενώθηκαν σε μια συλλογική καλλιτεχνική εγκατάσταση στον πρώτο όροφο της Δημοτικής Αγοράς Λάρνακας και προσκαλούν το κοινό να αλληλεπιδράσει και να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι της δημιουργίας ακόμα και μετά το τέλος της έκδοσης.

Μέσα από αυτήν την εμπειρία, τα παιδιά είχαν την ευκαιρία να εξερευνήσουν, να δημιουργήσουν και να εκφραστούν ελεύθερα. Η επαφή με την τέχνη δεν είναι απλώς ψυχαγωγική˙ αποτελεί ένα πολύτιμο εργαλείο ανάπτυξης, καλλιεργεί τη φαντασία, ενισχύει την αυτοπεποίθηση και ανοίγει δρόμους δημιουργικής σκέψης από μικρή ηλικία. Γι’ αυτό και τέτοιες δράσεις έχουν ιδιαίτερη σημασία για εμάς.

Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ σε όλους όσοι συμμετείχαν και στήριξαν αυτή την όμορφη διαδικασία!

Location : Larnaca Municipal Archive.

Messam’s work interrupts the everyday, transforming familiar environments and historical architecture to reveal hidden stories and fresh perspectives.

Ephemeral and immersive, his installations encourage reflection on place, memory, and the layers of history embedded in our surroundings.

For the Larnaca Biennale, Messam’s installation engages directly with the Municipal Archive. It enters into a dialogue with the building itself—its architectural forms, its presence within the city, and the stories it holds. By playing with perception, the work highlights how the archive is both seen and experienced in its environment.

Originally constructed as a colonial-era civic building, the archive was designed to make a statement. Messam’s intervention responds to this legacy, exploring how the visibility and meaning of such structures can shift over time.

For the first time, Larnaca Biennale is hosting an event dedicated to the official presentation of its fourth edition catalogue.

The publication features statements/greetings from the team and contributors and the curatorial vision and narrative of our curator Sana López Abellán Sana López-Abellán on the main theme and sub-themes.

It also includes full documentation of the artworks showcased, offering the public a renewed perspective as each work is photographed in its exhibition space and accompanied by the curator’s text.

The catalogue, was designed by Maria Voniati .lab and we extend our heartfelt thanks for her exceptional work.

The event will take place at Apothiki 79, where a selection of works from the main exhibition Along Lines and Traces is currently on display.

A beautiful way to celebrate the trace of this edition and bring this wonderful journey to a close together.

Για πρώτη φορά η Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας διοργανώνει μια ειδική εκδήλωση για την επίσημη παρουσίαση του καταλόγου της τέταρτης έκδοσης. Το βιβλιάριο περιλαμβάνει χαιρετισμούς από τους συντελεστες , τα κείμενα της επιμελητριας για την θεματική και υποθεματικές της φετινής έκδοσης και φωτογραφίες όλων των έργων τέχνης στους χώρους που παρουσιάστηκαν μαζί με κείμενο της επιμελήτριας για το κάθε έργο, προσφέροντας στο κοινό μια δεύτερη ανάγνωση των επιλεγμένων έργων.

The Final Week of the 4th edition of Larnaca Biennale !

Just a handful of days remain until the 4th Larnaca Biennale draws to a close after seven weeks full of art showcases, public installations, participatory performances and creative workshops for all ages. With over 100 participating artists, nearly 20 sidebar events, 13 indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces and thousands of visitors, this has been the biggest and most expansive edition yet.

Until Larnaca Biennale 2025 concludes on November 28, its exhibition venues and three final events invite the public for a final taste of creativity.

Παραμένουν λίγες μέρες μόνο μέχρι η 4η έκδοση της Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας να ολοκληρώσει τον κύκλο της, μετά από επτά γεμάτες εβδομάδες με έργα τέχνης από όλο τον κόσμο, δημόσιες εγκαταστάσεις, περιπατητικές δράσεις, παραστάσεις και δημιουργικά εργαστήρια.

What does it mean to approach a surface?
These artists show us that it can be anything but flat.

Some turn it into an oneiric dreamscape, where the canvas is a portal into the subconscious.

Others make it a bold statement, infusing the surface with raw, urgent messages.

Some literally fold it into creases, reshaping the material into sculptural forms.
And for others, like in the film, the surface becomes a threshold, something to dive into, swim through, and emerge transformed on the other side.

Each approach becomes an act of reinvention. proving that the surface is not just something to paint on, but something to experience.
