It is the first skyscraper built in Southeast Europe. The Albanian Palace is the very first business center & modernist structure in Yugoslavia and the tallest structure in the Balkan peninsular until the post-WWII period, when huge tenancy buildings were raised under Communist influence. Palace Albania was designed during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, in 1938, by Branko Bon and Milan Grakelic. Its w

as completed in 1940. It was named as Thanksgiving to the Albanian People, and in honor to Albania. The name of the structure was taken from an earlier object that had existed before. The Tavern of Albania was demolished by the authorities on 17 October 1936, causing an outburst of public outrage from Belgrade citizens - the old cafe was perhaps the most attractive location in Belgrade. The private Bank therefore bought the part of land before the new construction plans were realized, and decided to profit out of its powerful symbolism. Ergo the name "Palace Albania" was chosen by 1940. The old Albanian Tavern dated since 1910. In the front of iy were greetings "Enter, visitor" in Serbo-Croatian and Albanian languages.There were portraits of notable Albanians of the era in it.
