Look at this Tarana Kalashree we performed for the "Nataraj" competition back in 2021. I was still living in Saint Petersburg at the time and dancing at the "Chaturang" dance school—tagging them with much pleasure. My colleagues Elvira Sharma (the owner of this school) and Namrita and I prepared very seriously and with high quality, and we also truly enjoyed being on stage ☺️
I am so proud to have been part of this experience; it had a huge impact on me 🤩 To be honest, I don't miss it, and I miss this group even now 🥹
However, in my own school, I also foster a social atmosphere where the girls and I hang out outside of rehearsals too 😄 You know, that is very important because relationships are connections that continue to last 💃

But that is only because many people know very little about it.

In this Reel, I’ve tried to explain almost every genre within Kathak and what it signifies.

And yes, I have performed many of these at various solemn and festive events—such as Republic Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy, visits by prominent personalities, and birthdays.
Surprisingly, the request is most often for classical performance.

Our school’s new choreography is titled "Chandrashekharaya" 🕉📿 (choreographed by my teacher, Guru Ji Ashwani Nigam) 🙏

I recently visited him for personal training, attending one-on-one rehearsals and group dance classes. Now I am fully energized for the new dance season!

Today we talking about Lucknow gharana history. I highly suggest you watch this reel a few times to read it, because you’ll find many interesting facts about this school which you probably didn’t know.

The history of the legendary Lucknow Gharana 🪈✨

The school was founded by Ishwari Prasadji, who received a divine blessing from Lord Krishna. His descendants brought the art of Kathak to the courts of the Nawabs of Lucknow and gave the world iconic masters like Birju Maharaj,Shambhu Maharaj and of course my teacher Guru ji Aschwani Nigam!

What makes Lucknow Gharana unique?
🌿 Grace & Expression: Focuses on subtle hand movements and facial expressions, rather than just footwork.
🎶 Rhythm: Famous for bols like Dhatak Thunga and variations of Ta Thei Tat Thei.
🎭 Thumari Bhava: A signature technique where the dancer sings a Thumri and simultaneously interprets its emotions through dance.
