MATEMATIKA JE JASNA – PRVIH 10 GODINA
Galerija Art for All, Beograd

Izložbom „Matematika je jasna – prvih 10 godina“ Galerija Art for All obeležava značajan jubilej — deceniju postojanja, rada i posvećenosti savremenoj umetnosti.

Tokom protekle decenije, Galerija Art for All uspešno je proširila svoje delovanje izvan lokalnog konteksta, ostvarujući vidljivost i relevantnost na međunarodnoj sceni, naročito u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama.

Contemporary Balkan Transition
Curated by Marija Milošević
Gallery Puzić, Saarbrücken
Opening: November 30, 2025

The exhibition Contemporary Balkan Transition brings together six distinguished artists from the Western Balkans—Ognjen Tepavčević (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Kolja Božović (Serbia), Jelena Minić Mrdjen (Serbia), Vladislav Šćepanović (Montenegro), Jovanka Mladenović (Serbia), Marko Jakše (Slovenia), Bojan Šumonja (Croatia) and Ivana Milev (Serbia)—to reflect on the shifting realities of a region marked by resilience, memory, and transformation.
Contemporary Balkan art continues to grapple with transitions from socialist pasts to market economies, exploring identity, social change, and collective memory through diverse media. This exhibition positions transition not merely as a historical condition but as a lived, ongoing process that shapes cultural expression and everyday life. The participating artists rework memory, probe fragile boundaries of belonging, and open spaces for collective imagination.
The project also resonates with recent developments that shape both the Balkans and Germany today.

By placing these contexts in dialogue, Contemporary Balkan Transition creates a platform for reflection on how art mediates between local histories and global transformations.

Contemporary Balkan Transition is both a presentation of regional artistic voices and an invitation to rethink solidarity, resilience, and identity in an era of uncertainty.

Galerie Puzic shows a world in transition
A new exhibition brings together eight prominent voices from the Western Balkans and reveals the region's contemporary art canon.
BY BÜLENT GÜNDÜZ
SAARBRÜCKEN When we in Western Europe think of the Western Balkan states today, we think primarily of the Yugoslav wars of the early 1990s. For the people of those countries, this was a traumatic experience that still stays with them today. But the region has long moved on and wants to look forward. This is proven by the exhibition "Contemporary Balkan Transition" at the Galerie Puzic.
It will still take a long time until the Balkan states really live together without tension; it still occasionally simmers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, and many traumas have still hardly been processed. If you talk to the artists, however, it also becomes clear that they are looking to the future. The transition processes from autocratically governed Yugoslavia to democratic civil societies are not the only thing driving the artists, but universal themes that concern us all: How do we want to live and what should our world look like in the future?
The exhibition is curated by Serbian gallery owner Marija Milosevic, who runs the "Art for all" gallery in Belgrade and is considered well-connected. She managed to bring together eight artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Croatia, thereby making a cross-section of "Balkan art" accessible.

Jovanka Mladenović brings an introspective dimension through photography and painting where her engagement with the natural environment highlights both its beauty and fragility. By combining analogue and digital techniques, she underscores the ecological crisis, exposing the effects of urbanization and state policy on natural resources. Her works frequently function as calls to action, reminding us that art must take part in raising ecological awareness and shaping sustainable futures.

For Mrdjen, the central question is: How to find the future in the present? Her painting practice is concerned with capturing and preserving the immediacy of the present moment, crystallizing it on canvas as both testimony and anticipation. In her work, art functions as a social phenomenon that affects everyone—even those seemingly distant from it. By addressing shared temporalities, she reminds us that the present is always already shaping our future.
