We are not just a gallery.

We hang art. But what we are really doing is building the kind of place this coast deserves.

The waves keep coming. 🌊

Little Blue by Alex Starre just arrived at Sol Gallery — one of several new works now hanging on the walls. Sculptural texture in the softest palette she works in: pale teal, white, a wave caught mid-curl. The kind of piece that looks different every time the light changes.

Save the date — Rising Tides is back. 🌊

Saturday, May 23 | 5:30–7:30pm | Sol Gallery, Villareal, Tamarindo

This is our second annual celebration of the ocean — and this year we are going bigger. Art made in the moment, for a night that only happens once: Carlos Hiller returns to expressively paint with music accompaniment. Five artists demonstrating live. Dance performances. Live music. Curated drinks.

Rising Tides 2026 is also a fundraiser with our co-host, The Clean Wave, the Costa Rican organization doing the real work of protecting our coastline.

If you know Sol Gallery events, you know what this means. If you don't, May 23 is your introduction. Everyone is invited to our high season closing event.

Art moves. So do we.

Artwork arrives and gets unpacked with care. Pieces find their walls. People walk in to browse and end up staying for a real conversation. An evening turns into something you did not expect.

At Sol Gallery, the community is as much a part of the space as the art itself. Artists, collectors, neighbors, developers, and first-time visitors have all become part of something that keeps growing.

Fast sale on a piece that earned it.

4am by Alex Starre sold quickly — and it makes sense. From the process of creating it to the wall it held here, it brought something to this space that is hard to put into words. Una curación completa viene pronto.

In the meantime: the gallery is mid-installation, the ceramics are out, and our resident critic is already looking at what comes next.

Tomorrow, Costa Rica pauses to remember.

April 11 is Batalla de Rivas — the day this country honors Juan Santamaría and the courage of those who defended Costa Rica's sovereignty in 1856.

It is one of the quieter national holidays, but one of the most meaningful.

We thought this detail from Melissa Matamoros's new painting, Goddess of the Sea, said it better than we could. Costa Rica's birds, her hibiscus, her sea. Painted from the mountains of the south by someone who loves this country deeply.

Sol Gallery will be closed this Saturday, April 11. We'll be back Tuesday with regular hours.

Johnny Coopwood's A Woman's Journey has its own dedicated page on our site — and it earns it.

This is not a collection of individual works that happen to share a palette. It is a single, sustained body of figurative painting that traces the inner life of women through portraiture: the turning points, the stillness, the weight of arrival. Coopwood paints from the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, and the warmth of that light is in every piece.

Multiple works in the series have already sold. For collectors considering original figurative art for the home, what remains represents something increasingly rare: a cohesive series from a single artist, still in progress, at a gallery where the artist has deep roots.

Varias piezas ya encontraron su hogar. Lo que queda es una oportunidad poco comun de tener un original de una serie que ya esta demostrando su valor.
