Handsome loom-woven table runner - traditional indigenous (Brunka tribe, Costa Rica) textile made from spun and woven cotton and natural dyes (vegetal, mineral and mollusk urine giving purple tones). These 'mantas' (textile lengths) were joined to make the womens' skirts and mens' tunics which are still used for special occasions. Today Brunka women weavers are creating, from this ancestral textile, all sorts of unexpected articles: knapsacks, hats, table runners, pouches, laptop cases, even very fashionable garments. Measures 64" (1'63cm) long

The Central Valley and especially northern Costa Rica are regions known for much UAP (UFO) activity and for famous sightings. Folk artist Freddy Acuña, an older gentleman and quite a character, is a resident of San Carlos (northern Costa Rica) and has logged many sightings of such phenomena. Freddy believes that these entities are revealing themselves to us with a message to take better care of our biosphere - and to step up this task! In his particular style, he is exploring such phenomena (paintings and wood figures) within the setting of his northern Costa Rican surroundings. Measures 18" x 20"

Unique carving/painting (acrylics over balsa wood sculpture) from the local artisan community of the Solentiname archipelago in the southern quarter of Cocibolca Lake (Lake Nicaragua), Nicaragua. Known for very detailed landscape and island-lifeways paintings, as well as carved and painted local fauna, the artists of the Solentiname islands have a distinct and readily recognizable style. On the carapace of this freshwater turtle, there is painted - in a curious 360 degree perspective - a typical Solentiname landscape: islets in the sea-like Lake Nicaragua and looming volcanos seen on the far horizon. Measures: 25 1/2" long, 19" wide

Remarkable realism is achieved in the tagua ("ivory") nut carvings of local flora and fauna created by the talented indigenous artists of the Embera and Wounaan tribes of the Darien region of Panama. As a perfect example of such attention to detail, the perfectly captured pose and precise carving and inking technique, is this brown pelican figurine. 3 1/2" (9cm) tall
