Was lucky to spot and capture a Peregrine falcon couple mating atop a tower. It was drizzling, breezy and cold but it was all well worth it!!

It was a good day to go birding yesterday as the sun was out and it almost felt spring like. Including a squirrel as well as it was part of the scenery and looked so cute!

This was one of the many lifers we got to admire when we visited the Santa Rita Lodge in the Madera Canyon south of Tucson. The constant chirping and activity of these Acorn Woodpeckers kept us entertained in the very cold and foggy morning.

Gliding low and effortlessly over the Tucson wetlands, this Northern Harrier patrols its territory with quiet precision. With wings held in a shallow V and eyes locked on the ground below, the raptor’s ghostlike flight and striking plumage make it a thrilling sight against the open landscape. A perfect moment capturing both grace and purpose in one of the Southwest’s most elegant hunters.

Perched in rare stillness, this Rivoli’s hummingbird reveals the full brilliance of its iridescent green throat, glowing like polished emeralds against a soft, muted background. The sharp contrast between its jewel-toned plumage and the delicate perch highlights both its power and fragility. A fleeting pause before motion resumes. A quiet reminder that even the fastest wings rest, if only for a moment.

Desert Royalty - That iconic topknot says it all. A Gambel’s quail pausing mid-stride, perfectly at home in the Sonoran Desert. Spotted in Scottsdale a few weeks back, where subtle colors and quiet confidence rule the landscape.

Desert Sentinel - spotted this cactus wren standing watch among stone and shadow in Scottsdale. With its bold markings and confident posture, it perfectly embodies the tough, adaptable spirit of the Sonoran Desert. Small in size, but full of character.

Tiger of the tides - Photographed along a quiet Costa Rican shoreline last November, this Bare-throated Tiger-Heron stands poised at the water’s edge, its finely barred plumage blending beautifully with sand and shadow. A subtle breeze lifts the feathers along its neck, revealing warm chestnut tones that contrast with the cool grays and yellows of its face and bill. Calm, alert, and statuesque, the heron embodies the patience of a shoreline hunter, waiting for the perfect moment as land and water meet.

A bright splash of yellow in the misty canopy, this Tropical Kingbird perched patiently during a light drizzle in Costa Rica last November. Its fluffed feathers and calm posture made for a beautiful moment in the soft, overcast light.

A burst of rainforest color! Loved watching this Silver-throated Tanager hop through the branches - those glowing yellows and olive-green patterns are just incredible. Such a delicate little bird, yet it lights up the whole frame. Its lemon-yellow head, moss-green wings, and soft silver throat look unreal against the lush backdrop. A beautiful moment to photograph as it moved between branches and berries. Taken last November at Canopy San Luis in Provincia de Alajuela, San Ramón, Costa Rica.
