I was inspired to call my dad yesterday. I vented my sorrows about the state of the world…
My heart is breaking for the genocYdes in Gaza, Congo, Sudan, and other places. My mind is blown by the insidious, dishonest, sadistic, and greedy nature of the governments of the world (nothing new, but now it’s in our faces and in our smartphones). I am terrified by the eco-cide taking place with chemical weapons that permanently poison our sacred earth.
I am shattered by all the hate among so-called spiritual people, the religious entitlement, and the underlying belief in one’s supremacy over another that leads human beings to become monstrous. I am tired of conversations where people are just hearing and responding to their own trauma responses, instead of WHAT IS.
And most of all, I am extremely disappointed many human’s lack of ability to question what they think they already know…
My nervous system was lit up, bones quivering, breath shallow, fire coming out of my mouth.
Then I ask my dad, “How was your day?”
He tells me about his day, which is pretty much like every other day: “Well, I woke up and played my Celtic flute. I walked my dogs. Then I went to play music for that organization that produces concerts for incapacitated people at nursing homes, hospitals, etc.”
I have been to these types of concerts of his… They are the most beautiful thing ever. He plays classics, lots of the Beatles, along with exquisite folk music. People are so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. Their whole bodies sing to the music, even if they can barely move or speak. My dad has played over 1000 concerts like that so far in his life. He is a master symphony musician who could play for much more money, but he prefers to spend his time here instead of fancy weddings. Needless to say, his is my favorite rock star ever.
Simultaneously, he is sorrowful of the world, but holds it within his steady gratitude for his day. “I am a happy guy. I have nothing to complain about.”
Then I received the sacred reminder: We can’t only “fight” for peace. We must LIVE PEACE.
Yes, look, listen, learn, and TAKE ACTION toward justice each day. BUT REMEMBER TO LIVE PEACE.
It’s good to be aware, and not good to drown in the news. It’s good to respond, but not good when you loose touch with your own dharma. It’s good to take a stand, but not good when we become infected with the “war virus” ourselves, leading us slowly toward bias and hate.
I LOVE YOU ALL. Let us LIVE PEACE as we fight for peace, if we have the privilege to do so. It is the only true antidote to the war virus.
PS - If you've made it this far... I've been posting things about what's happening, but they're diminished by the 'rithm. Take a look.
