Yonkers City Council voted to rename the corner of School Street and Brooke Street "Earl DMX Simmons Way." The location sits next to the Calcagno Homes housing complex where Earl "DMX" Simmons was raised.

The vote went through without a single objection. Residents and officials filled the council chambers in support.

DMX sold 74 million albums worldwide and became the only artist in history to have five consecutive debut albums reach number one on the Billboard 200. But for Yonkers, the numbers were never the point.

He traveled the world, went to prison, came back, fell, got up again, and always came home. The city never forgot that.

Now the street never will either.
