Many years ago I learned to wood lathe but I’d always been a bit reluctant to do it on my own until I found Fernando and his incredible wood shop in the Escuela Taller de la Estación de la Sabana, kind of reminds me of the RISD years at the shop. This particular piece is called Tip Top referring to being in Tip Top shape but also because of its use of Top like shaped forms.

This interactive piece is nostalgic nod to my furniture design years, made of a pine laminate, the doors open and close to form different configurations almost like biombo. This is a first of a series to come.

This series draws inspiration from the Memphis style, an 80s design movement known for its bold colors, geometric shapes, and playful patterns. While I’ve maintained the characteristic curves and triangles, I’ve opted for a more subdued color palette and tensed fabrics offering a contemporary twist on the classic Memphis aesthetic.

This art piece is a combination of Art Deco and Native Navajo patterns. Art Deco is a design style that flourished during the 1920s and 1930s. Characterized by bold geometric shapes, especially curves, strong lines and luxurious materials, while the use of triangles and red, white and blue color palette is typical of Native American folk art.
