The arts scene requires individuals and organizations that are constantly infusing it with new ideas, a new urgency to impact the imagination and that have the ability to foster connections and collaborations between different actors in the arts scene. Nova et Vetera has helped infuse the Colombian scene with new projects that have bridged the gap between theaters and different music scenes includ
ing both the local traditional music and the international avant garde scene. Teatro Colón has presented throughout 2015 a traditional music series that has presented revered and valuable Colombian musical traditions to an urban population that is geographically and culturally distant from said expressions. It has also helped present ambitious projects such as 'Garras de Oro' by the French contemporary music ensemble Le balcon, a production that involved live music, electronics and film. The company has helped infuse the Colombian scene with jazz, contemporary music, world music and projects that have an impact beyond the stage through workshops and master classes. An important project that displays this dynamic attitude is the colaboration with three quartets (Arditti String Quartet, Jack Quartet and Quatuuor Voce) and Teatro Colón to not only present recitals with music by the likes of Helmut Lachenmann, Iannis Xenaxis or Jonathan harvey but also to include in their recitals the premier of string quartets by Colombian composers. These quartets will have been recorded by the end of the year and will be published in a CD. During their visit to Colombia the quartets also taught master classes, participated in talkd to composition students and read new works by composition students. The arts need organizations that are able to bridge gaps, create connections, shake the established formats and push the boundaries of what is administratively possible in order to allow the boundaries of what is musically possible to happen. Nova et Vetera is well underway to become such an organization in Colombia.
