We will be talking with Sean McLaughlin!
A conversation for creators, producers, and educators
For Creators
Sean McLaughlin is a reference point for any artist looking to take their sonic vision to the next level. From his Boston-based studio 37' Productions, he has collaborated with a wide range of creators — from Matchbox Twenty and Queensryche to Dirty Vegas, Sarah Blacker, and Kristen Merlin — helping them translate their artistic identity into recordings that genuinely connect with audiences. In this live stream, we'll explore how to find your creative voice, how to communicate your vision inside the studio, and how to build a sustainable career in an ever-changing industry. If you're an artist, songwriter, or content creator, this conversation will give you tools to elevate your craft.
For Producers
With over two decades of experience, Sean has worked alongside legends such as Andy Johns, Jimbo Barton, and Carmen Rizzo, and has collaborated with artists like Rush, Elliott Smith, Marilyn Manson, and projects from Death Row Records during his time in Los Angeles. He mixes more than 200 songs a year and has been named Producer of the Year by the New England Music Awards in 2013, 2018, 2019, and 2024 — becoming the first person to achieve that honor more than twice — as well as winning the Boston Music Award in the same category. In this session, he'll share his workflow, mixing techniques, his philosophy on communicating with artists, and the lessons that only come after thousands of hours behind the console.
For Educators
As a professor in the Music Production & Engineering Department at Berklee College of Music, with additional teaching experience at the New England Institute of Art, Sean has shaped a new generation of engineers and producers. He is also the author of Mixing with iZotope (2014), an essential guide for beginner and intermediate mixers. In this live stream, he'll discuss how to teach music production in the digital era, how to balance theory with real-world studio practice, and how to prepare students for today's industry challenges. A must-watch conversation for teachers, instructors, and audio mentors.
