I sink into needles and earth
Back flat on the breathing ground
Smoke hangs like a curtain above me
Worlds spin, I don’t hear a sound
Cold bark pressing my shoulder
Night birds cutting through the black
Every thought is a slow bright comet
Every heartbeat pulls me back
Where are the Pleiades?
I swear they were here last year
Seven small lanterns
To keep all this dark in gear
I’m higher than I’ve ever been
But I still can’t touch that sky
Where are the Pleiades?
Why can every god just hide?
Your name drifts up with the ash
Old promises, half a laugh
Planets I mapped as a child
Blur out, fall off the graph
I trace constellations with fingers
Shaking in the frozen air
See ten thousand burning answers
Not one of them even cares
Where are the Pleiades?
I swear they were here last year
Seven small lanterns
To keep all this dark in gear
I’m higher than I’ve ever been
But I still can’t touch that sky
Where are the Pleiades?
Why can every god just hide?
Two men under one wide silence
Breath low, like a distant train (oh)
Your voice in my left ear fading
Mine in your right like rain
If I can’t find those sisters
Tell me, what else did I lose?
Is it hope, is it time, is it you, is it me
Or just a mind gone loose?
Where are the Pleiades?
I swear they were here last year
Seven small lanterns
To keep all this dark in gear
I’m higher than I’ve ever been
But I still can’t touch that sky
Where are the Pleiades?
Why can every god just hide?
