Jazz Club de Macau (JCM) was officially founded in July 1985, as an increasing number of jazz enthusiast, including some musicians, were moving to live in Macau for professional reasons. The first Jazz Club was established in a small joint at Rua das Alabardas, not far from the Inner Harbour, with a regular house band and some guest performers mostly playing at weekends. Local patrons as well as H
ongkongers, regularly filled the place. In 2000, the club moved from Rua das Alabardas to the Glass House at NAPE, so called for its transparent walls, close to the monument dedicated to Kum Iam. It was a dream place, by the riverfront, added by a beautiful esplanade. The music and scenery attracted many customers on a regular basis, including an increasing number of international patrons. However, the temporary lease by the Macau Municipal Council ended in 2002, when the Municipal Council was replaced by IACM. It seems that the club, notwithstanding the success it had with the Glass House was quickly losing membership, as Macau was moving into another gear. Subsequently, the JCM ceased to have a permanent office/club and activities were put on hold until 2012, when new lections were called and a new Board took charge of the Club.
