Fusion space - Fluid space workshop
This workshop explores theatrical and artistic spaces and social and cultural structures. In it, we will merge architecture with performance to explore the crossovers and intersections between disciplines, genres, physical environments and social activities. These include the culinary arts, dance hall music, ritual, cinema, bars, prayers and meditation – all will be considered equivalent. In my career as a theater designer/architect, I combine various forms of media and arts practices to create new interpretations and innovative ways to consider the role of the audience within theatrical space. This investigation has exposed the gap between the rapid development of multimedia technologies and the slow response of theatre to embrace multidisciplinary strategies. This workshop calls for a site-specific solution – new ideas, fresh designs, which will bridge disciplines and effect content and practices. Such a solution will create a multidisciplinary space for an event that includes media, considers subspaces and virtual spaces, introduces culinary activity, dancing, vagrancy, rest, prayer, display, and projection. The workshop will create and realize this notion. The physical space of the workshop will function as a laboratory, kitchen, classroom, dance hall, workspace and stage.
