Shanghai International Literary Festival

Shanghai International Literary Festival The M Literary Festivals in China began well over a decade ago, with the launch of the Shanghai International Literary Festival in 2003.

Organised by and hosted at M on the Bund, the Shanghai Festival has grown from small beginnings into one of China’s leading English-language literary events. In 2011, Capital M launched the Capital Literary Festival, which quickly established itself as an important part of Beijing cultural life. The festivals have attracted many local and regional authors as well as others from well over 20 countr

ies around the world. The Festivals aim to bring together the best in fiction, literary non-fiction, journalism, the arts, poetry, current affairs, film, erotic fiction, China-focused writing, exploration and travel writing, economics and history, health and philosophy, food, wine and cookery and also children’s writing. Activities include stimulating interviews and rousing readings, poetry slams and film screenings, panel discussions and writing workshops. There are sessions on photography, art, poetry and those geared for young adults and kids. Sessions are primarily in English, though sometimes in other languages.
