The romantic drama The Peony Pavilion (The Return of the Soul), written by the Ming-dynasty playwright Tang Xianzu, tells the story of Du Liniang, a young lady of noble birth, and the scholar Liu Mengmei, whose love transcends the boundary between life and death. Now, this classic tale has been reimagined as a contemporary dance drama. Produced by Suzhou Cultural investment Group and HS production, co-directed by Chinese young dance artist Li Xing and young choreographer Huang Jiayuan, and performed by the Suzhou Song and Dance Theatre, the dance drama Dream in Peony Pavilion reinterprets the timeless classic through contemporary dance language. Let’s join the two protagonists on their journey and immerse yourself in an enduring romance that has captivated hearts for over 400years.
