【Using fur, fiber, paper, and books as his main medium of communication, Wu Wei’s works point to the core issues of hunting, rituals, scripture, and history of ancient Chinese civilization. Through modernist installation language, the artist recreates and reflects on the mystical traditions of the ancient Orient and the dialectical relationship between hieroglyphics and savage beasts, suggesting the process of human civilization‘s repeated struggles with the natural world. Often using simple and precise language to create a sense of psychological ”ritual“, Wu Wei’s creations always follow rigorous artistic concepts and compositional methods in order to activate the real (physical) meaning of images and materials of the past. Wu Wei‘s works are full of tactile desires, trying to find new feelings and possibilities in materials and space, and the media including ”fur“ as a carrier, connecting life, touch, fantasy and history.】
