I will tell you a secret...
Not every photographer knows how to photograph children.
Why? Because children are different.
When you bring a child into a strange environment, with strange lights and a big black camera pointed at their face, they become skeptical. They become scared. That environment is not their safe space.
That is why some children will cry from the beginning of the shoot till the end.
So what should you do as a photographer?
My secret is simple: STOP SHOOTING AND START PLAYING.
Don't just carry the camera and say "look here!"
Sit on the floor with the child. Play with them. Make funny sounds. Sing their favorite song. Let them touch your camera. Let them laugh at you.
When the child starts feeling SAFE, the magic begins. That is when you get that real, natural smile you can't force.
And to parents...
You know your child more than any photographer does. You know what makes them laugh, what makes them cry, what toy they love.
Please help us. Don't shout "Stop crying!" in front of the camera. Instead, come with their favorite toy, their favorite biscuit, their favorite song on your phone.
If we work together — photographer + parent — we will capture not just a picture, but a beautiful memory.
Because a baby's smile is not captured by a camera...
It is captured by TRUST.
