The GGN Working Group on Geodiversity & Biodiversity invites all managers in UNESCO Global geoparks to a Webinar on “Linking GEODIVERSITY and BIODIVERSITY in UNESCO Global Geoparks: Learning from the geologic PAST, understanding crises at PRESENT, shaping a sustainable and resilient FUTURE together.”
When? On the International Day of Geodiversity, 6th October, 12:00-13:00 GMT
The GGN Woking Group on Geodiversity & Biodiversity focuses on the link between geodiversity and biodiversity in UNESCO Global Geoparks.
In doing so, they follow the Past-Present-Future Approach: To raise awareness of the current climate and biodiversity crises by showing examples from the geological past and to actively protect biodiversity to shape a sustainable and resilient future.
In this context, the working group aims to bring together geoparks that (1) highlight their geological history to help the public community to understand current challenges such as the climate and biodiversity crises, and (2) take measures to protect endangered ecosystems, landscapes, and geological sites within their geopark areas.
The preliminary planning of the webinar is as follows:
Three informative presentations, each lasting about ten minutes, will give best-practice-examples on the two main themes of the working group: geodiversity and biodiversity throughout Earth’s history as well as the protection of geodiversity and biodiversity in UNESCO Global Geoparks today.
In a subsequent discussion, an exchange among participants is planned in five to seven groups.
These groups will be named after a specific question that relates to a particular topic.
The groups will be moderated by members of the GGN working group. Further planning for the webinar will take place in an online document through 31st August.
