Another addition to my portrait series

The Golden One

I always wondered how Klimt felt about his subjects. Did he know that youth and beauty was ephemeral and capturing it was a kind of alchemy? His women captured in a moment from which there was no return.
I am reminded a line of the Joni Mitchell song “Sweet Bird “

“I lay down golden
And woke up vanishing”…

I’m getting to a time in my life when I’m more interested in a legacy. This group of paintings is the beginning of a series that signals that. I am building series of figurative paintings of family members ( and who ever inspires me) that will probably take years to complete… maybe I will never finish doing everyone I want, but that’s the beauty of it… maybe I will be lucky and die painting (hopefully not soon).
