We acknowledge the guidance of our elders, the talent of our emerging artists, and the support of our community who continue to uplift and champion the arts in the Cook Islands.

The Moanaroa Artist Residency was a few weeks ago now but these memories and the connections made with these vaine toa, will last a lifetime.

A special friend of Gallery Tavioni, Nynke who lives in the Netherlands, purchased Papa Mikes book ‘Escaping West to Reach the Rising Sun’.
On a recent trip to Rapa Nui, Nynke took her copy of the book around with her visiting the sites mentioned in the book.
Here is a short exert from a diary entry she shared with us:
“An intensely special experience, reading that book (Escaping West to Reach the Rising Sun) from those 5 men en route to Tahiti hoping for a better life but ended up on Atiu. Reading that on this island knowing what Atiu is like. Can hardly describe how special that is. The places Michael mentions in the book I have just been, yesterday, the day before yesterday.”
