Focus Œuvre / « The Weight of Knowledge »
Réalisée dans le cadre de la résidence de l’artiste en Côte d’Ivoire, cette installation constitue l’une des œuvres centrales de l’exposition Fragments of Knowledge.
Conçue par Prosper Aluu, l’œuvre a été produite avec l’assistance de Lydia Matiegou et Chahîd El Batti, étudiants en dernière année à l’École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Elle a également pris forme grâce à la participation d’un groupe d’élèves du Groupe Scolaire Boigny de Gonzagueville, avec le précieux soutien de l’Association Imagine le Monde.
Chaque livre porte un nom, une voix, une pensée. Ensemble, ils composent une accumulation vertigineuse — celle des attentes, des espoirs et des responsabilités que l’éducation fait peser sur chaque génération.
À travers cette œuvre, Prosper Aluu interroge ce moment fragile où le savoir devient à la fois promesse d’émancipation et poids à porter.

Created during the artist’s residency in Côte d’Ivoire, this installation stands as one of the central works of the exhibition Fragments of Knowledge.
Conceived by Prosper Aluu, the piece was produced with the assistance of Lydia Matiegou and Chahîd El Batti, both final-year students at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
It was further shaped through the participation of a group of students from Groupe Scolaire Boigny in Gonzagueville, with the valuable support of the Association Imagine le Monde.
Each book carries a name, a voice, a thought. Together, they form a towering accumulation — reflecting the expectations, hopes, and responsibilities that education places upon each generation.
Through this work, Prosper Aluu reflects on this fragile moment when knowledge becomes both a promise of emancipation and a weight to bear.
