It was filled with truly great music by outstanding artists. Each of them displayed unique musical styles, yet they were bound together by their determination to push the boundaries with their distinctive musical language and their willingness to collaborate. Why play alone when you can create vibrations, goosebumps and amazement with an entire ensemble?

Zurich musician Noémi Büchi has not only put together an ensemble of four talented musicians especially for the currents festival, but has also composed a completely new piece for the ensemble and festival: 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗺, a contemporary electroacoustic ensemble piece written for Horn, Trombone, two Saxophones, and Electronics.

Cataclysm is an amalgamation of diverse musical influences, including film music, jazz, game music, classical, and subtle elements of pop, it’s a cross-genre piece with influences and ideas from spectral music that challenges conventional notions of classical music and blurs the boundaries between the musical past, present and future.

The ensemble features accomplished musicians: Joan Jordi Oliver on Saxophone, Axel Kolb on Trombone, Grace Juliet Macdonald on Saxophone, Filipa Salazar on Horn, and the composer herself on the Electronics.

🌱💓CURRENTS: NEUES FESTIVAL FÜR MUSIK DAZWISCHEN UND DARÜBERHINAUS IN ZÜRICH 💓🌱  Ein «Entdeckerfestival» soll das CURRENTS werden. Das neue Format, das aus dem 2014 gegründeten Apples & Olives Festival hervorgegangen ist, will ein Programm schaffen, das sich über alle stilistischen Grenzen und Normen hinwegsetzt. Das biennale Festival findet dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal vom 6. bis 9. März im Moods Club und im EXIL statt.

🍬Eine Premiere jagt die nächste beim CURRENTS: Noemi Büchi wird am 9. März eine Neukomposition mit einem eigens für das Festival zusammengestellten Ensemble uraufführen. Auch Klangkünstlerin Magda Drozd und Performancekünstler Nicola Genovese werden erstmals unter dem Namen «Sopraterra» Saxophon und Violine mit antiken Melodien und futuristischen Drones anreichern und so fast überirdische elektronische Klanglandschaften entstehen lassen.
