This year’s artist, Donald Baechler, was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1956. He attended the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore (1974-77) and Cooper Union, New York (1977-78). In 1978-79, he spent a year studying at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main. While in Germany he became acquainted with Jiri Georg Dokoupil and Walter Dahn. Baechler’s work is represented in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art; The Whitney Museum of American Art; and the The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, all in New York; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Philadelphia Museum; and The Centre George Pompidou, Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris.

ART IN THE PARK XIV - from 13th June to mid-August 2016

If it helps communicate his meaning and message, Jani Leinonen is not averse to concealing the art in his work. At ART IN THE PARK XIV, however, the subversive Finnish artist comes out into the open. For two months this summer, his provocative, in-your-face works will fan out around the magnificent Baur au lac Park, turning heads, alternately prompting frowns and peals of laughter although provoking thoughts.

Gigi Kracht, in collaboration with Galerie Gmurzynska, would be delighted to welcome you to this larger-than-life solo exhibition by a man who describes art as 'a lie that reveals the truth'.

"In Zurich, ART IN THE PARK XIII
The latest edition of “Art in the Park,” a highlight of Zurich’s summer season, opened this week.

The event showcases the works of a different notable post-modern and contemporary artist each time. It started in 2007 at the Baur au Lac hotel, and the focus this year is the British pop artist Allen Jones, 77. From now until Aug. 23, the public is invited free to view six of his sculptures in the property’s half-acre park set on the shores of Lake Zurich. The pieces, including “Man About Town” and “Echo,” are mostly abstract and use interlocking sheets of steel painted in colors like cobalt and primrose.

Gigi Kracht, the wife of Baur au Lac’s owner, Andrea Kracht, created the show and collaborates with the international art gallery Galerie Gmurzynska to choose the artists."
