Zum Abschluss der Ausstellung «Zürich: Dialoge zur Verdichtung» bringt Afterwords Planer:innen, Architekt:innen, Forscher:innen und Vertreter:innen der öffentlichen Verwaltung zusammen, um über die behandelten Themen des Projekts zu reflektieren.

Mit Blick auf Vergangenheit und Gegenwart Zürichs thematisiert die Diskussion die Herausforderungen der zukünftigen Stadtentwicklung, der Verdichtung, der Planungsvorschriften und der sich wandelnden Rolle der städtischen Vorschriften bei der Gestaltung der Stadt.

As the exhibition «Zürich: Dialoge zur Verdichtung» comes to a close, Afterwords brings together planners, architects, researchers, and public officials to reflect on the themes explored throughout the project.

Looking back at Zurich’s past and present, the discussion will address the challenges of future urban development, densification, planning regulations, and the evolving role of urban codes in shaping the city.

Schulen als Foren der Gemeinschaft / Schools as Civic Forums

Schulen spielten im Laufe des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts eine zentrale Rolle in der Stadtentwicklung Zürichs. Eine Reihe von Gesetzen und Bauprogrammen liess sie zu wichtigen öffentlichen Einrichtungen in allen neuen Vierteln werden. Heute fungieren Schulkomplexe in Zürich als gemeinschaftliche Foren innerhalb einer polyzentrischen Stadt. Sie bieten dadurch Raum für eine Vielzahl von Aktivitäten jenseits der Bildung, darunter Freizeit, Sport und Familientreffen.

Diese Führung mit Ausstellungskurator und Architekturhistoriker Tom Avermaete untersucht, wie Schulen und ihr Aussenraum seit über hundert Jahren eine grundlegende Rolle bei der Gestaltung von Stadt und Raum für das alltägliche Quartierleben gespielt haben. Gleichzeitig beleuchtet sie die Strategie der «Schulprovisorien» unter dem aktuellen demografischen Druck und wirft damit ein neues Licht auf die öffentliche Relevanz von Schulbauten.

Wir suchen eure Experimente!

Das ZAZ BELLERIVE lädt Büros und Planende ein, ihre Experimente einzureichen. Die ausgewählten Beiträge bilden im Frühling 2027 eine Ausstellung zur Rolle des Experiments in der Architektur. Sie werden während vier Monaten gezeigt und im Hinblick auf eine Publikation dokumentiert.

Architekturproduktion bewegt sich im ständigen Spannungsfeld zwischen Normierung und Innovation. Gesellschaftliche, ökologische und räumliche Herausforderungen entwickeln sich oft schneller als Regelwerke sie abbilden können. Die Weiterentwicklung von Architektur geschieht dort, wo Architekt:innen und Planer:innen bestehende Regeln überprüfen, dehnen oder neu interpretieren.

Experimente bilden dabei ein Werkzeug, Veränderung zu antizipieren, zu testen und sichtbar zu machen. Sie sind die Bedingung dafür, dass Architektur auf neue Realitäten reagieren kann.

Von konstruktivem Detail über Tragstruktur, von Grundrissentwicklung zu Gebäudetechnik – sichtbar geworden im Modell, im Scheitern oder im gebauten Resultat.

ZAZ BELLERIVE invites architectural practices and planners to submit their experiments. The selected contributions will form an exhibition on the role of experimentation in architecture in spring 2027. They will be presented over a period of four months and documented with a view to publication.

Architectural production exists in a constant field of tension between standardisation and innovation.
Social, ecological and spatial challenges often evolve more rapidly than regulations can reflect them. The further development of architecture happens where architects and planners examine, stretch or reinterpret existing rules.

Experiments are a tool for anticipating, testing and making change visible.
Experiments are the condition that allows architecture to respond to new realities.

From constructional detail to load-bearing structure, from floor plan development to building services — made visible in the model, the failure or the built result.

Gong Chenxi is the founder of Atelier Wo-Land (我Land: www.atelierwoland.com). Her Intervention in Yangshantou Village was shortlisted for both the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award and AR Public Award. She understands the architect as a kind of anthropologist — someone whose practice is grounded in understanding for the sake of imagination. Her work unfolds in semi-urbanized villages, where governance, topography, and local agency collide to produce a built environment fractured by conflicting intentions and overlapping visions. Through site-specific interventions, analytical mapping, and teaching, she seeks to awaken perception and activate the often-overlooked ties between space, landscape, history, and collective life.

Her current research asks: what changes — in aesthetics, spatial logic, and professional practice — when we replace the rural-urban dichotomy with a rural-urban continuum? She is particularly interested in how architects navigate between institutional structures and grassroots dynamics, and in the conceptual frameworks and value judgments that shape rural public spaces, infrastructure, and cultural landscapes. Rather than replicating existing models, she embeds herself into specific social mechanisms to understand how ideas, institutions, and built form shape one another.

For Gong Chenxi, architecture is an ongoing conversation between subject and land. That is what Wo-Land aspires to embody.

Architektur fotografieren

Für Schülerinnen und Schüler der Jahrgänge 2011–2017

In der Stadt sind wir umgeben von Gebäuden. Manche wirken freundlich und einladend, andere riesig, übermächtig oder einschüchternd. Fotografien können solche Gefühle verstärken, verändern oder sogar vortäuschen.

Im Ferienprojekt fotografieren die Kinder Architektur in den Strassen rund um den Pavillon Le Corbusier und die Villa Bellerive. Sie experimentieren mit Perspektiven, um Nähe oder Distanz, Offenheit oder Unzugänglichkeit der Gebäude sichtbar zu machen. Sie lernen verschiedene Techniken sowie Tipps und Tricks rund um das Thema Fotografie kennen und probieren sie selbst aus. Zum Abschluss werden die Werke in einer kleinen Ausstellung gezeigt. Die Kinder dürfen alle Fotos mit nach Hause nehmen.
