I’m honoured to receive an invitation from Graywolf Press in the United States to collaborate on the cover art for writer Dorothy Tse’s new book City Like Water. I’m deeply grateful to the Graywolf team for their trust in my visual world, selecting my artwork The Green Hong Kong Ferry as the cover for this publication.

The ferry is a recurring motif in my creations. I often transform this familiar vessel—so deeply rooted in Hong Kong life—into a dreamy character and stage. In a quiet, almost surreal atmosphere, it carries the whole of Victoria Harbour, slowly crossing between shores, as if breathing and drifting through the tides of time.

很榮幸收到來自美國 Graywolf Press 的邀請，合作與作家Dorothy Tse 新作《City Like Water》的封面藝術。感謝 Graywolf 團隊對我視覺世界的信任，選用了我的畫作〈綠色的香港小輪〉作為這本作品的封面。

這艘小輪，是我創作中反覆出現的意象。把香港人熟悉的小輪，變成一個帶點夢幻氣息的角色與舞台，在靜謐的氛圍中承載著整個維多利亞港，緩緩渡向兩岸，彷彿在時間的水面上呼吸與過渡。

Trying to break through the current painting style, I used strong lines inspired by “Cubism” and insisted on black to create the tension of time and space.

2025年，不知不覺成為了香港與倫敦兩邊走的人，也從教學整理與課程設計、到獲邀在頒獎典禮擔任嘉賓分享、再到倫敦出席藝術展與研討會、接受Podcast 媒體專訪，都讓我更深入探討「設計師、插畫家、藝術家」三種身份之間的不同角色與互相影響，逐步形成今天屬於 Rickubic 的設定。

年初獲 D2 Place 邀請出席「十大匠人」頒獎典禮作分享，回顧得獎後的藝術發展歷程時，才真正意識到自己的創作已經走出香港，足跡伸延至台北、杜拜與倫敦等地。每一個展覽都講求天時、地利、人和，因此我非常珍惜每一次展出的機會，也樂見作品在不同城市與觀眾展開對話。

首次在倫敦展出以香港為主題的畫作，當中包括〈山海漂流〉、〈離境〉、〈霓虹時空〉等，畫作連繫了當地與移居港人的心境，重現他們記憶中的香港。期間舉辦的研討會，以「藝術家／插畫家如何在新環境中找到創作空間」為題，分享了在當地的觀察與創作之間的掙扎與協調，也讓更多人看見創作需要突破地域及語言的可能。

今年部分新的畫作亦獲藏家肯定，包括〈石森之夜〉、〈好。舊啟德〉，當中〈舫似鯨落〉再次成為最受歡迎畫作之一，感謝大家不忘已沉下去的記憶舫舟。此外亦於 Affordable Art Fair 中，首次在畫作上加上金色筆觸，為作品帶來新的層次與質感，而這些實驗性的嘗試，也獲得藏家鼓勵。

教學與分享也是今年重要的部分，因為沒有教學兩年，需要投入大量時間準備及授課，希望可以將合作與創作的經驗帶入課堂，讓學生理解設計與品牌。同時接受 Podcast 專訪邀請，透過聲音與影像細說故事，把香港關於流動的視覺符號，帶給不同背景的觀眾。

獲得手錶品牌贊助，嘗試將藝術語言延伸至產品與日常之上。以至及後與美國的出版社及本地品牌合作等，無論身在何處，每一次展出、每一場分享、每一次課堂與對話，都在推動 Rickubic 向前延伸，亦讓自己更確信在多重身份之間找到平衡與連結。

2026，願世界和平，精神穩定

In 2025, I began dividing my time between Hong Kong and London. From teaching and guest speaking to exhibitions and podcasts, these experiences deepened my exploration of the roles between designer, illustrator, and artist—defining what “Rickubic” means today.

Invited by D2 Place to speak at the “Top 10 Artisans” Award Ceremony, I reflected on how my art has journeyed from Hong Kong to Taipei, Dubai, and London. Each exhibition depends on the right timing, people, and place, and I cherish every moment of connection with new audiences.

My first London show featured Hong Kong-themed works like Messages in a Bottle and Neon Space-time, reimagining the city through memory. Sharing at the seminar “How Artists and Illustrators Find Creative Space in a New Environment,” I explored how art bridges distance and language.

Highlights of the year included new acquisitions such as The Night of Concrete Jungle and Good Old Kai Tak, while Whale Fall remained a favorite. At the Affordable Art Fair, I introduced gold brushstrokes, adding new texture and depth to my work.

Returning to the classroom after two years, I reconnected teaching with practice, sharing insights on design and branding. Collaborations with a watch brand, U.S. publishers, and local brands further expanded “Rickubic” into new forms of expression.

2026 — wishing for peace and balance for all.
