Sunday 11:00-18:00 Shedhalle is located directly at the lakeside, on the site of Rote Fabrik, which has been used as a cultural centre in Zurich since the early 1980s. Originally, the exhibition space was the result of an initiative by artists and its curatorial teams still often consist of artists. Shedhalle and Ro

te Fabrik have always been places for processes that have bundled the city's potential to enable new artistic formats as well as social forms. With the new artistic direction 2020-2025, Shedhalle is to develop into the centre for process-based art in Zurich and Switzerland with expanded exhibition formats called "Protozones". Shedhalle is run under the umbrella of its association by Miriam Haltiner (management), Philipp Bermann and Thea Reifler (artistic directors), as well as Michelangelo Miccolis and Lucie Tuma (curatorial board).

Dear Visitors,

Shedhalle will go into renovation time! 🏗️
Starting today, we will be taking a break from hosting events and exhibitions until April, as the space is being transformed. ❄️ Throughout the rest of winter, we'll be working behind the scenes to create a renewed atmosphere for you to enjoy. While our doors will be temporarily closed, we're anticipating the moment when we can welcome you back to a Shedhalle. 🛠️

On Friday, January 12, Shedhalle invites you to a postscriptum of the fall exhibition, “PS: Syncretic Sites”. This in the face of the heated atmosphere and a climate of fear and concern, also in the local cultural scene, over the last three months.

Protozone12: Syncretic Sites (Sept-Nov 23) negotiated a syncretic understanding of the world at the same time as the renewed outbreak of brutal violence in Israel and Palestine. The text of ‘Syncretic Sites’ states that “a syncretic understanding opens up the world to its multiplicity and density. Thus, what is stacked on top of each other, entangled in each other and fused with each other does not create one singular world, but worlds of coexistence – in the plural.” In times of affective states of emergency, polarization occurs to a point where it becomes almost impossible to maintain complexity.

PS: Syncretic Sites is dedicated to cautious zones of coming together in the same space as a counterpoint and complement to the confrontation with current events through media channels and news services. In addition to shared words, thoughts and concerns, it is about embodied practices and neighborliness in the presence of each other.

10-12h Somatic practices
12-14h Lunch

16-18h Sharing and discussing of excerpts from texts and audio by the participants 2 or individual writing practices

Closing Concert
by Belia Winnewisser
13.01. 21h

Producer and DJ Belia Winnewisser lives and works in Zurich.
For the completion of her studies in music and media art Belia tried to combine sound art and pop music in her work. With her first album Radikale Akzeptanz,
released by Präsens Editionen, she succeeded in doing just that. In addition, the release gave her an international perception. On July 2nd 2021 Belia’s second album SODA appeared likewise on Präsens Editionen. With this album, the artist marked another milestone in her solo career and she solidified her approach to
sound production. The media response to the release showed that Winnewisser had not only found her own way with it, but also an exciting one. A year later the
EP Mother Earth Took Poison In Her Soil was released on the Frankfurt label Die Orakel which presented Belia’s refreshing approach to club music.
Besides her work as a producer, Belia is resident DJ at Kapitel Bollwerk in Bern and enjoys various bookings. Belia’s DJ sets are bursting with energy and emotion and are characterised by her sense of rhythm and tension.

Dreaming Communal
Solastalgic Cooking & Listening Session with Chris Paxton
13.01.24 17h-20h

Solastalgia is a neologism, formed by the combination of the Latin word sōlācium (comfort, ease, solace) and the Greek root -algia (pain, suffering, grief), to describe a form of emotional or existential distress caused by environmental changes. The term was coined in 2005 by philosopher Glenn Albrecht, who described it as "the homesickness you have when you are still at home.” How do we experience comfort or pain together on a disappearing planet? Can we dream the future through the darkness of our present? What sonic ecologies can we bring to life by listening and dreaming collectively? Let’s stew on this together for a while…
A vegetable curry, perhaps a prime example of comfort food, will be prepared collectively with the ingredients and tools we have at hand as we share our feelings, desires and dreams for a disappearing Earth. Participants are invited to contribute to a soundscape while preparing the meal together. Sonic contributions can take the form of a poem, a dream, a text, or otherwise, so long that it resonates with the question: Now, what are our dreams for Earth?
Come as you are. All are invited to cook, share and listen.

Chris Paxton is a Berlin-based culinary artist, host and curator. His immersive culinary art, rooted in cyclical time and local specificity, fosters collective visions through shared meals that transcend the table. His work challenges environmental (dis)connections and confronts the haunting of food cultures by capitalist and colonial histories. In a collaborative dreamscape, Chris weaves sound and food, proposing a culmination of desires expressed through commensality, collaboration, and listening.

Spill I-III
by Deborah-Joyce Holman

Spill I-III utilises the strategies of asemic writing that can function beyond linguistic understanding. Asemic writing is a wordless, open form of writing that conveys no specific meaning. The camera shots take their time for details in the landscape, wander, get lost. The soundtrack by Yantan Ministry breathes with the landscape and our bodies. Voices rise and ebb away. These sounds, movements and touches do not seek a destination, but find contact with the world in different ways.

Winged Eros
by Steph Holl-Trieu .pdf

Steph gave a workshop during the opening weekend, exploring the world and characters of Winged Eros through Live Action Role-Playing (LARP). LARP is a unique form of role-playing game where participants interact in character, shaping a fictional setting through collective worlding. The workshop delved into practices of worlding, focusing on agency, ritual, and gesture. Participants learned how the interplay between player agency, character dynamics, and the predetermined setting contributes to the creation of a vivid fictional world. Drawing on game mechanics, repeatable rituals, and expressive gestures, the workshop, organized in collaboration with the Aesthetics research focus at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, welcomed participants of all levels of LARP experience.

Winged Eros is a sound installation that offers an intimate encounter with the stories of six characters. Each character recounts stories of political conviction and personal desire.
Their stories are encountered in a series of remote pillow talks they have with each other. In these conversations, they struggle to unravel the tangled strands of Love and Revolution. Moving at times in unison, at others in discord, they ask, ‘What is this spectre of Revolutionary Love?’ And: “How can it be lived? Not just understood?”

SCHULE DER LIEBENDEN (SCHOOL OF LOVERS)

For almost two years, the artistic team around Theater HORA, melanie bonajo, Daniel Cremer and Yanna Rüger has been working on this amazing and important project about intimacy and pleasure in collaboration with Fabriktheater and Shedhalle.

Tomorrow Friday, 08.12.23 at 8pm, the school opens its doors for the first time, invites you into Carolin Gieszner's incredible riverbed classroom and teaches you a few juicy and tender lessons in LOVE ❤️.

The premiere is already sold out! Get your tickets for the next shows: 10./14./15./16.12.23 and 5./6./7.1.24 (shows in German/Swiss German with English subtitles) The ticket link is in our bio.

If you prefer a more private setting or can't make it to the live shows: melanie bonajo's s*x education film 2.0 with the HORA performers will also be shown during the regular opening hours of Shedhalle as part of Feels Like...
