We don't do this too often, so here is our second ever fundraiser! We're selling our books and prints online just for the next few months, alongside preorders for our upcoming anthology which will be released in spring 2026. We also have a section for stand alone donations, and all links are in our bio.

Your support completely funded our first book, Lost Cities, in 2015! Today, donations will go towards public programming of our free workshops, printing costs of the anthology, and compensation for our writers.

Next year, we plan to become a 501(c)3 nonprofit so our funding can come from more public grants, but until then your help is greatly appreciated ✨

We had the sweetest tenth (or eleventh?) birthday party this Saturday at with writers Christine Shan Shan Hou Lalo Mackenzie .tha.muse and Larissa Pham and musician Treya Lam

Thanks to everyone who came and to those who have supported us and participated in our publications over the years! It’s been a long journey from artist books to community storytelling projects like Impermanent Earth to the mixture of community engaged workshops and publishing we do today, and with your help, we look forward to the next ten years.

This month we're hosting an online fundraiser to help find our next book with all our books and prints available for purchase on our website, as well as preorders for our upcoming anthology.

One more reminder that our extended call for pitches is until next Thursday, July 31st and our general open call is open until Friday, August 15th!

For our next print publication around the theme of Earth, we are looking for research based essays, thought pieces, articles, and interviews with scientists, community leaders working with climate activism, and other culture bearers working around environmentalism. We are also accepting some poetry and artwork strongly relating to our theme, including photo essays.

As a small independent press and project, we will be compensating contributors with copies of the printed book, and will be hosting a fundraiser later this year to fund honorariums. Please feel free to contact us by email, [email protected], or IG message if you have any questions.

We're collaborating with for the first time to bring you Botanical Storytelling, a writing and bookmaking workshop on Tuesday, July 29th from 6-8pm!

Inspired by sketchbooks and travel journals by artists like Margaret Mee and Dame Barbara Hepworth, we will help participants create personal field guides of important plants from their lives and memories in the form of illustrated saddle stitched booklets.

This workshop is listed as members only and Center For Book Arts membership is $60/year. However, in keeping with our commitment to free, publicly accessible workshops, Center For Book Arts provides reduced-price, sliding scale, or fully-covered scholarships based on need.

If you need a scholarship, please email CBA at [email protected] and contact us by message or at [email protected] if you have any questions or need help. We hope to see you there!

Thrilled to announce our first open call in a long time for our new print publication series! Continuing our dedication to environmental storytelling, this series will bridge the gap between scientific research and local community action.

Our first publication will focus on earth. Earth encompasses a wide range of themes, from plants to soil profiles, fungal connections, and rock, and we are looking for experienced writers and scientists, farmers, or community leaders working with earth, including indigenous groups. We want to uplift the voices of experts in their fields.

Please send us non-fiction essays, thought pieces, articles, and short poems through Google Forms, link in bio. Submissions are open between June 1 and July 31. We are accepting pitches for articles and interviews until June 30th.

Our Project

Impermanent Earth is an experimental art project that aims to collect the experiences of people around the world and more specifically, their memories of places they’ve seen alter or disappear. As the project grows and more entries are added, we hope to gain a better understand of the effect of climate change is having on our lives and how people in other locations are dealing with and adapting to that change.
