IDKF is an atypical event. It confronts conventions. An exception to traditional festivals. Eclectic, eccentric and uncurated, it introduces itself as an instance for all kind of creative expressions, gathering artists from diverse areas and disciplines that explore the conjugation of art and technology. The festival is conceived as a large-scale artistic intervention, scrutinizing the democratization of art and culture in a heightened interconnected society influenced by complex hybrid networks that convolve virtuality and reality.

RöstiBrücke Electroacoustic Cabaret
Annual translinguistic exchange programme for sound artists in Switzerland since 2022. A series of polymorphic performances that offer the opportunity to experiment with new sounds and new spaces. As in a cabaret, the audience attends a series of performances, blending genres and sensibilities, with sound poetry as the only common thread.

EMC·EMI by Daniel Maszkowicz

This album is most probably my best work so far, I'm especially proud of the final piece which i can listen as an infinite loop. Some pieces were recorded in China, some in my studio in Switzerland.

Phonorescence: When images become audible and sounds begin to glow

With their self-made instruments, the Egger brothers merge image and sound into a unique signal stream. Live images from old video cameras are fed back via television, begin to modulate each other and generate audible frequencies.

Daniel Maszkowicz is a power electronics research engineer, and multidisciplinary sound artist. He develops and implements devices for manipulating electrical signals and electromagnetic fields with a variety of unusual analogue feedback and sensors.

Electromagnetic compatibility is the ability of electrical equipment and systems to function acceptably in their electromagnetic environment, by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy which may cause unwanted effects such as electromagnetic interference. – Wikipedia

Scientist-artist Daniel Maszkowicz uses electric signals and electromagnetic fields with analogue electronic feedback and uncommon sensors. With a multichannel surround set-up, he immerses his audience with electromagnetic field recordings and sonified brainwaves as a mean to illustrate how machines interfere with each other.

Daniel Maszkowicz is a power electronics research engineer, independent film curator, multidisciplinary performance artist, composer and producer. As a sound artist, he uses obsolete laboratory instruments, synthesizers and coils. He works on sound algorithms for sound installations and develops data sonifications using Python and SuperCollider in an approach that leaves room for expression for both the scientist and the artist.

Dive into a monolith floating flat in space with a device containing a projector and a visual sensor. The movement of the hand induces a displacement of fluid on the surface as well as a sound vibration that passes through the object. Acoustic resonance responds to tactile and visual resonance, creating a synesthetic vortex that reproduces a kind of free thermodynamics in which particles follow mutable rules of physics whose variables evolve free of constraints. The photon projected against the surface of the monolith interacts with the ore, which improvises Chladni shapes according to the vibrations and interactions of the public who comes into contact with this multiversal portal.

Collaborations with the Robert Turner began during the pandemic with visuals accompanying Influut's musical performances. The first autonomous audiovisual installations were presented at the transdisciplinary exhibition Renaissance. Here interactivity is explored for the first time.

Biblioteq Mdulair is an orchestra made up of 15 analogue frequency generators, operated 4-handed by the Franco-Helvetic-Polish duo Emma Souharce & Daniel Maszkowicz. With its oscilloscopes, sinusoids and frequency sweeps, the Biblioteq Mdulair installation has something for all the senses and their envelopes. Exploring vibrations, titillating resonances and creating pulsating breaths, the machines of primordial electronics plunge the space into a magma of waves for a vertiginous electroacoustic experience. A genuine ode to the fundamental acoustic wave that is felt by both body and mind, the audience who enter this intense and fascinating laboratory of sensory experimentation will find themselves vibrating as much in their bodies, as in the cortex.

Throughout an entire afternoon of sound massages by prior arrangement or spontaneous visit, the duo revisits their very first installation at the Deviant Art Festival, which was a marathon performance over several days for an audience who took turns to lie down on a wooden box beneath which contained a subwoofer, to transmit the low-frequency vibrations made by reclaimed function generators. The duo then became a performative installation that was presented many times, alone or accompanied by Synkie's analogue video synthesizers, and travelled by lorry to Moscow and Kiev.

Kosmosmonium offers stratospheric music composed by various electrical signals and electromagnetic fields with analogue electronic feedback and other unusual sensors. The immersive sounds are halfway between drones and power electronics, with a specific focus on the use of electricity. Usually presented with an abstract yet cinematic visual framework that contributes to the narrative, this new collaboration with the Synkie modular video environment promises an imposing installation for a total audio-visual symbiosis.

The collaboration with the collective [ a n y m a ] began with the installation of Biblioteq Mdulair function generators, a large installation with cathode-ray tube televisions that was called Expanded TV, in reference to the performances coming out of the screen called Expanded Cinéma. The abstract aspect of the visuals allows an obvious correspondence with the music for a coherent spontaneous composition, where visuals are audio-reactive, and sound is video-inspired.

This improvised duo of spontaneous composition looks into the scientific music of the last century. Using several instruments originally developed by Nikola Tesla, these two sound researchers dream of recreating the world of scientific presentation that led to the discovery of the extraordinary properties of electromagnetism. With a Violet Wand - initially used as a therapeutic medical instrument by a few self-proclaimed “healers” - a Tesla coil - a mini lightning machine that makes noise and flashes for no other purpose - and lots of wave sensors and other fantastic machines, the audience is invited to travel to the sound of the electron.

My first collaborations with Flo Kaufmann were in the context of meetings between Biblioteq Mdulair and Synkie, which he co-created. He also created the 'cut' for our vinyl album and it was then that I discovered his passion for technologically obsolete objects and his playful way of hijacking them. The duo grew out of several conversations and a shared desire to go in the direction of the 19th century science show.
